India: Roofsol Energy has won a contract to supply solar power plants with a total capacity of 10.5MW for Shree Cement in Jharkhand and Uttarakhand, Saur Energy News has reported.
Roofsol Energy said “Shree Cement owns and operates cement grinding units in nine locations across India and owns production facilities in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Karnataka and has operations in India and UAE. The company carries out power generation through waste heat recovery plants and now it is adopting solar plants as well.”
Ambuja Cements to build 4Mt/yr grinding plant in Jharkhand
21 February 2024India: Ambuja Cements is planning to build a 4Mt/yr cement grinding plant at Motia Village, Godda District in Jharkhand. The project has a budget of US$120m. The proposed plant will use fly ash supplied from the nearby Andani Power Godda thermal power plant.
Ajay Kapur, CEO – Cement Business at Adani Group, said “We believe that Jharkhand holds immense potential in terms of resources, infrastructure and skilled manpower, making it an ideal location for this project.”
Ambuja Cements operates two cement plant in Jharkhand with a combined production capacity of 6Mt/yr.
Adani Group to establish cement plant in Santhal Pargana
22 January 2024India: Adani Group has announced plans to build a new cement plant, possibly at Godda, in Jharkhand’s Santhal Pargana Division. The Times of India newspaper has reported that producer recently established a 1.6GW power plant in Godda.
The group said “In keeping with our group’s expansion plans, we are conducting a feasibility study to set up a cement factory, most probably in Godda. A proposal will be sent to government soon. The proposed plant will further boost the economy of Godda and Santhal Pargana. The proposed plant will utilise fly ash from our existing power plant here as raw material. At present, the fly ash is being sent to the ACC cement plants in Jhikpani and Sindri.”
Shree Cement commissions new solar power plants
13 January 2023India: Shree Cement has commissioned captive solar power plants with a total capacity of 40MW in Bihar and Jharkhand. A Shree Cement facility in Banka, Bihar, hosts a 30MW solar power installation, while another in Seraikela Kharsawan, Jharkhand hosts a 10MW installation. Press Trust India News has reported that Oriana Clean Energy carried out design, engineering, procurement and construction on both projects.
India: Employees of a contract firm working at Dalmia Cement’s Bokaro grinding plant in Jharkhand have allegedly killed a worker in an attack on 15 March 2022. The deceased’s roommate has also been missing since then. Both workers had been in trouble with their employer for refusing to work overtime. Operations reportedly continued as normal at the plant until other loading workers began a protest on 16 March 2022.
Dalmia Cement spokesperson Shyamlal Sahu said “The matter was brought to the notice of local police and they have started their probe. We are cooperating with them to bring the culprits to justice. We will work with the contractor – Durga Enterprises – to extend support to the bereaved family. We, at Dalmia Bharat, accord highest priority to maintaining internal harmony and a healthy working environment, and will work with our contractors towards ensuring that such untoward incidents do not happen in the future.”
Dalmia Cement hears locals' concerns over Bokaro cement plant plans
01 December 2021India: Dalmia Cement has presented its plans for its planned Bokaro, Jharkhand, grinding plant expansion and heard locals' concerns at a community meeting. The company said that the plant would increase local employment and agreed to compensate communities impacted by its operations. The plans consist of the installation of 2Mt/yr-worth of new grinding capacity on 0.1ha of land.
India: Dalmia Cement has signed three memoranda of understanding with the state government of Jharkhand. The memoranda provide that the Dalmia Bharat subsidiary will invest US$104m in expanding its cement operations in the state. The producer’s plans consist of a US$68.5m upgrade and capacity expansion to its Bokaro cement grinding plant. The project will increase the existing production line’s capacity to 3.7Mt/yr and add a new grinding line, bringing the total plant’s capacity to 6.3Mt/yr. In addition the cement producer will spend US$34m towards building a solar power plant and the remainder will be spent on setting up a waste management facility.
India: Dalmia Bharat subsidiary Dalmia Cement (Bharat) has marked World Environment Day with the ceremonial planting of a tree at the Bokaro cement plant in Jharkhand. In Assam, the company planted 6000 Neem, Royal Poinciana and Yellow Poinciana saplings and 4km of bamboo fence around its Alsthom Industries cement plant in Jagiroad.

With this tree plantation drive, we would humbly like to make a contribution towards the nature. OPGC dispatches fly ash to ACC
24 May 2021India: Power company OPGC has dispatched its first shipment of fly ash to ACC’s Jhinkpani cement plant in West Singhbhum district, Jharkhand. The Pioneer newspaper has reported that the shipment consists of 3450t of fly ash from its Ib power plant. The power plant has fly ash storage facilities with a capacity of 6900t. It previously supplied ash to a Star Cement cement plant in Assam.
India: LafargeHolcim subsidiary ACC has commissioned a new 1.4Mt/yr unit at its Sindri cement grinding plant in Jharkhand. The plant now commands a total grinding capacity of 4.4Mt/yr. The company began work on the expansion in December 2019 in order to strengthen its presence in the Eastern region. It said that the state government and local authorities aided smooth commissioning.
LafargeHolcim India chief executive officer (CEO) and non-executive director ACC Limited Neeraj Akhoury said, "Strong ambition aimed at deliverance of high performance is what guided ACC to establish the commissioning of the Sindri GU-Phase-II within a record period.” He added, “I am proud of the flexibility and agility demonstrated by the team."
ACC managing director and chief executive officer (CEO) Sridhar Balakrishnan said, “The commitment, meticulous planning and collaborative approach by the Project Sindri team in these unprecedented times and commencing the cement production in a record time have set a new benchmark for ACC.”
