Holcim Argentina completes upgrade at Malagueño cement plant

Argentina: Holcim Argentina, part of Switzerland-based LafargeHolcim, has completed a US$120m upgrade at its integrated Malagueño cement plant in Córdoba province. In a meeting with the Minister of Productive Development, Matías Kulfas, the cement producer said it was planning in inaugurate a newly refurbished 0.51Mt/yr production line at the site later in May 2021. The work also included adding a vertical roller mill and new bagging area with a capacity of 120,000bags/day. The project was originally announced in late 2017 and Germany-based KHD was awarded a related contract in early 2018.

Angarskcement modernises grinding systems with new compressed air supply systems

Russia: SibCem subsidiary Angarskcement has replaced air ducts with local air blowers in its raw materials and clinker grinding units. The producer made the modification to the units’ three horizontal slurry tanks.

Managing director Dmitry Kireev said, “The programme to reduce the consumption of compressed air in the slurry section of the raw materials and clinker grinding facility will continue.” He added, “It is important for us to reduce the costs of energy resources consumed by slurry basins, since they directly affect the cost of the products manufactured by the plant.”

Gebr. Pfeiffer to supply coal mill to Deccan Cement’s Bhavanipuram cement plant

India: Germany-based Gebr. Pfeiffer has won a contract to supply a vertical roller mill for grinding coal to Deccan Cement’s Bhavanipuram cement plant in Andhra Pradesh. Gebr. Pfeiffer India will be responsible for processing the order and supervising production and installation at the plant’s 3500t/day kiln line. The mill will be the company’s second from the supplier. It chose an MPS 250 BK mill, which can also grind petcoke or a mixture of coal and petcoke. Commissioning is scheduled for before mid-June 2022.

Yura plans US$200m Arequipa cement plant upgrade

Peru: Yura plans to upgrade its Arequipa cement plant at a cost of US$200m. The planned upgrade will increase the plant’s clinker production capacity to 8000t/day from 5000t/day. The La República newspaper has reported that the sustainability-enhancing expansion involves the installation of a new vertical roller mill, packing, storage and dispatch equipment and a 4.3km raw materials conveyor. General manager Ramón Pizá called the modernisation a “vote of faith in Peru.”

Votorantim Cimentos to upgrade Corumbá cement plant

Brazil: Votorantim Cimentos has announced plans to upgrade cement production at its 0.2Mt/yr integrated Corumbá cement plant in Mato Grosso do Sul. The Correio de Corumbá newspaper has reported the value of the planned work as US$2.85m. The investment is intended to improve the plant’s grinding line, modernise an electrical substation system, make changes to its mining operations and generally focus on optimising energy consumption. It also plans to train employees and work on community outreach activities.

Melón’s new grinding plant at Punta Arenas to start operation by June 2021

Chile: Melón’s new 0.25Mt/yr grinding plant that it is building at Punta Arenas is scheduled to start operation by the end of the first half of 2021. The unit is forecast to produce around 80,000t of cement in its 12 months, according to the La Prensa Austral newspaper. It has had an investment of US$30m and will create around 50 jobs. Spain-based Cemengal was previously reported as the supplier of the mill. It is intended to supply the Magallanes Region including Tierra del Fuego. The cement producer is also considering doubling the production capacity of the grinding plant to 0.5Mt/yr if the market supports it.

Gebr. Pfeiffer to supply Lafarge Poland’s Malogoszcz cement plant with vertical roller mill

Poland: LafargeHolcim subsidiary Lafarge Poland has ordered a 307t/hr MVR 3750 R-4 vertical roller mill from Germany-based Gebr. Pfeiffer for its Malogoszcz cement plant in Świętokrzyskievoivodeship. The supplier says that the equipment has a drive power of 2500kW and that it is the first MVR mill to be installed in the country. It said that the producer chose the mill for its reduced energy requirements compared to those of other grinding mills. China-based Nanjing Kisen will execute the order for commissioning in early 2022.

Phoenix Industrial wins CalPortland Mojave cement plant raw mill installation contract

26 February 2021

US: Phoenix Industrial will install the raw mill for Denmark-based FLSmidth’s raw mill upgrade of CalPortland’s integrated Mojave cement plant in California. The company said that it will conduct civil, concrete, structural steel, mechanical and electrical work on the project. Mobilisation of crews to the site is due to begin in March 2021 with commissioning scheduled for December 2021. Saxum Engineering is also working on the upgrade.

UltraTech Cement orders nine vertical roller mills from Gebr. Pfeiffer

India: Germany-based Gebr. Pfeiffer has received an order from Aditya Birla subsidiary UltraTech Cement for nine vertical roller mills. The producer plans to install the mills across three newly-built clinker lines. The supplier said, “The cooperation between UltraTech Cement and Gebr. Pfeiffer is based on the understanding of not only being a customer or supplier, but to achieve common goals in partnership.”

Loesche to supply Lafarge Zement’s Mannersdorf cement plant with new raw materials grinding plant

18 February 2021

Austria: Germany-based Loesche has received an order to supply a new raw materials grinding plant to LafargeHolcim subsidiary Lafarge Zement’s Mannersdorf cement plant. The plant will consist of a type LM 45.4 mill, a LSKS type classifier, a rotary feeder, a magnetic separator, a conveyor, a pair of Hurriclons, a mill fan and the ‘Digital Ready 4.0!’ digital package. Loseche’s subsidiaries Kingsblue and AixProcess are responsible for the digital products and A-Tec for the Hurriclons. Commissioning is scheduled by the end of February 2022.

Cement and ore head of sales Stefan Baaken said, "Many cement plants in Europe are facing similar challenges to our customer in Mannersdorf. For us as an original equipment manufacturer and also for the customer, the new grinding plant is an important signpost towards more energy-efficient and sustainable cement production.”
