Georgia: The government has raised the mineral extraction limit for Georgian Cement, amending the company’s mining license under a decree issued on 28 February 2025. The revised limit now allows for the extraction of 718,415m³ of sand and gravel from the Lezhbadin mineral deposit in Khanji-Gazlo, Marneuli Municipality, until the license expires on 24 October 2025, according to Business Media Georgia. In return for the additional 287,630m³ of extraction, Georgian Cement must pay US$148m to the state budget within the designated period.

Georgian Cement, formerly HeidelbergCement Georgia, rebranded as "New Honeywell Cement" in August 2024 following its acquisition by Honeywell Partners. The company previously operated under the Heidelberg Materials brand, which held a 45% stake before the buyout.

Belgium: Heidelberg Materials Lixhe (formerly CBR) has applied to expand the Romont quarry towards Kanne, ensuring the Lixhe plant's operations for the next 20 years with an additional 94.75 hectares. This expansion marks the third and final phase, intending to continue marl extraction on Walloon territory. A public inquiry is scheduled from 16 September - 30 October 2024.

Director Benoit Gastout said "Based on a recent environmental impact report, we are now requesting the partial revision of the regional plan and an environmental permit for the desired extension. We are very aware of the impact of the quarry on the region. That is why we have been taking various measures for years to ensure that Romont is embedded in the landscape as well as possible and that the fauna and flora are respected because of the rich biodiversity. The priority in all of this remains that we want to live in harmony with the local population.”

Australia: Adelaide Brighton has extended its lease over its Sellicks Hill quarry in South Australia until 2090. The Advertiser newspaper has reported that the signing of the lease, which secures the company’s local supply of limestone, “coincides with a rise in local cement consumption due to the government’s South Australia HomeBuilder building and renovation subsidy scheme,” according to the company. In August 2020 Adelaide Brighton signed supply contracts with BHP and OZ Minerals for infrastructure projects in the state.

Tanzania: Manyara Cement has shared plans for a 0.2Mt/yr integrated cement plant in Hanang district, for which it has already acquired limestone and pumice extraction licences for sites around Mount Hanang. The plant will use a vertical shaft kiln.

The plant will sell cement on the northern Tanzanian and southern Kenyan markets.

UK: Hanson’s ship Arco Avon has uncovered a mammoth tooth whilst dredging the seabed for aggregates for use in cement production off the east coast of Norfolk. Natural History Museum palaeontologists have identified the specimen has having belonged to a 35-year-old animal that died between 10,000 and 0.35m years ago. The dredging lane, 10km offshore from Great Yarmouth, has previously turned out mammoth vertebrae and a tusk fragment.
