Instructions for presenters

Presenters at the Future Cement Conference should carefully note the following points and deadlines.

Main point - Supply both MSWord document, biography and Powerpoint presentation to the organisers by 15 January 2011.

General

Presenters are requested to finalise their presentation titles, and to send them to the convenor. (Fax +44 1372 743838, or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.), as early as possible.

Please aim to give delegates useful knowledge: company advertisements are NOT allowed! Demonstrate your knowledge and expertise - that's advertisement enough!

Presenters must register for the conference in the normal way.

Conference proceedings

Presenters are expected to supply a written prose version, in English, of their oral presentation, for inclusion in the conference proceedings volume. The written prose version should not exceed 3000 words in length. The written prose version may be accompanied by tables, figures, diagrams and photographs.

All material should be supplied on by email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. The written prose version should be supplied in the form of an MSword text document, with embedded images. Please note that Power Point presentations are not acceptable for inclusion in the proceedings volume. Graphical material must be accompanied by a full caption, and should clearly indicate its figure number/title.

All presenters must also send, at the same time, a separate MSWord document with a short biography (around 100 words), which allow the session moderator to introduce them.

The written prose version and biography should be supplied to the convenor by 15 January 2011 at the latest.

A style note - The only letters that should be in capitals in the written prose document should be proper nouns and the first letter of each sentence. For example, not 'the Cement Industry,' but 'the cement industry.' Thank you! For a useful and funny guide to the use of capitals, click here.

Conference oral presentation

Presenters will have 25 minutes each to give their oral presentation, and five minutes will then be allowed for questions. Please note that, in theory and in practice, presentations/questions are not allowed to run over their allotted time. The conference language is English. All presenters will be able to use a tie-microphone and laser pointer (supplied).

All presentations should be given using Power Point software. Presenters should send their presentation by email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Presentations will be installed in the correct sequence on the conference laptop computer. Back projection facilities are not available. A presentation trial suite will be available at the conference for presenters wishing to have a 'trial run.'

If your presentation includes any video clips, send the presentation (including movies!) on a CD to the following addrress: First Floor, Adelphi Court, 1 East Street, Epsom, Surrey, KT17 1BB, UK.

The PowerPoint version should ALSO be supplied to the convenor by 15 January 2011 at the latest.

All presenters must use a standard introductory 'slide', which will include the conference logo, the title of the presenter and the title of the presentation. This slide must also be used at the end of all presentations, while the question session is underway. Other 'slides' may take whatever form the presenters wish, but should include the conference logo in any of the four corners.
