Mexico: Holcim will use technology developed by Geocycle in Colima to process 45,000t/yr of sugar biomass into alternative fuel for its kiln. The initiative will reportedly prevent 55,000t/yr of CO₂ emissions. Sugarcane bagasse has a moisture content exceeding 50%, which makes it difficult to recycle and can cause fire risks during processing. Geocycle’s system utilises waste heat from cement kilns to dry up to 220t/day of biomass, reducing its moisture content to 10% and grinding it to 95% for subsequent co-processing.
