Kenya: President William Ruto has broken ground on a US$538m integrated cement manufacturing plant in Mwingi North, Kitui County, scheduled for completion in August 2027. President Ruto said that this new plant would reduce reliance on imported clinker. He later announced plans to break ground on Bamburi Cement’s expansion in Matuga, Kwale County, in approximately three weeks. This new clinker plant will have a capacity of 5000t/day. Ruto said that Kenya’s cement production increased from 8.9Mt/yr in 2024 to 10.4Mt/yr in 2025, with output reaching 7.6Mt/yr in the first eight months of 2026.
