Eurocement targeting exports to Denmark and UK
16 June 2016Russia: Eurocement Group has said that it is targeting exports of cement at Denmark and the UK. Company chief executive officer Mikhail Skorokhod said that ‘contracts in Denmark and Britain are forthcoming’ in an interview with PricewaterhouseCoopers that was recorded ahead of the St Petersburg International Economic Forum.
Exports by Eurocement to Finland and the Baltic states have been taking place since the end of 2015 with a gradual increase in sales volumes. In Finland the cement producer has a market share of 5%. Skorokhod added that the devaluation of the Russian Ruble has opened up export opportunities for the company. However, the company has not disclosed the volume of its exports, according to Interfax.
The overall volume of cement exports from Russia in January to April 2016 reached 230,000t with production of 13.6Mt, according to data from the Union of Cement Producers.
Saudi Arabia/Finland: Wärtsilä has received an order to supply a turnkey power plant for the Umm Al-Qura Cement Company. The 47MW captive power plant will be located close to Taif city. The equipment will be delivered by February 2015 and the project will enter commercial operation by October 2015.
The power plant consists of five 20-cylinder Wärtsilä 32TS engines, a new two-stage turbocharged version of the Wärtsilä 32 series. This new engine is designed to operate efficiently in high temperate and altitude conditions such as a location of this project with temperatures up to 50°C and an altitude above 1000m. After completion of this project, Wärtsilä will have supplied more than 1600MW of installed power plant capacity in Saudi Arabia.
Refractory solutions company Calderys acquires Termorak
17 February 2014Finland: Refractory solutions firm Calderys, subsidiary of Imerys, has announced that it has acquired Termorak Group in Finland, a company that specialises in refractory services that include lining design, refractory material sourcing, installation work and inspections for a range of industries, including cement.
Through the acquisition Calderys will expand its position in the petrochemical and pulp and paper industries, as well as in the power business in Finland, Russia, the Baltic countries and in south eastern Asia.
Markus Larkimo, managing director of Calderys Finland OY stated that, "Calderys has been present in the Finnish market for over 80 years of service to the iron and steel, ferrous foundry and boiler industries. Termorak's world-class people, expertise and services fit perfectly in our portfolio and will enable us to offer a wider range of refractory solutions to all our customers."
MacGregor secures carrier order for Taiheiyo Engineering
04 September 2013Finland: MacGregor has secured a new order for autonomous loading and unloading systems for an 8700DWT cement carrier to be built for Japanese ship-owner Taiheiyo Kisen Kaisha. The cement handling systems are designed to carry three grades of cement at a rated capacity of 1000t/hr.
"The totally enclosed cement handling arrangements will ensure flexible, efficient and clean cargo operations," says Anders Berencsy, Sales Manager, Selfunloaders at MacGregor.
Cargotec subsidiary MacGregor provides engineering solutions and services for handling marine cargoes and offshore loads.
