Third-quarter sales boom for Larsen & Toubro in 2023
01 November 2023India: Larsen & Toubro recorded sales of US$6.12bn during the third quarter of 2023, up by 19% year-on-year. Its infrastructure projects segment contributed sales worth US$3.36bn, 55% of the total, with an increase in order inflow of 72%. Larsen & Toubro’s net profit grew by 45% year-on-year during the quarter, to US$387m.
Malaysia: India-based Larsen & Toubro Ltd and Tamco Switchgear (Malaysia) have filed a patent application for a jointly developed switchgear panel structure. The companies’ customers include cement producers in Malaysia.
India: Larsen & Toubro says that it has won a contract to supply a 1.8Mt/yr grinding unit to a site belonging to a ‘leading cement producer’ at Dolvi in Maharashtra. The supplier said that the scope of the work includes civil and mechanical engineering and equipment installation.
JSW Cement operates a 2.2Mt/yr integrated cement plant in Dolvi. It upgraded the plant’s capacity from 1.2Mt/yr in 2019.
India: Larsen & Toubro has won a contract for the construction of a 3.5Mt/yr-capacity integrated cement plant at Nimbahera in Rajasthan. The Press Trust of India newspaper has reported that the supplier classed the order’s value as ‘significant,’ meaning between US$134m and US$336m.
India: Larsen & Toubro has secured and engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for a new integrated cement plant at Pali, Rajasthan. It says that a major national cement producer awarded the contract.
In December 2020, Global Cement reported that Aditya Birla subsidiary UltraTech Cement planned to proceed with the construction of a cement plant at Pali.
Larsen & Toubro wins 90 Komatsu mining equipment supply contracts
11 December 2020India: Larsen & Toubro has secured 90 contracts for the supply of Komatsu mining equipment to industrial companies, including various cement producers. The company says that the contracts include 66 orders for Komatsu dump trucks, 15 Komatsu wheel loaders and seven units of Komatsu hydraulic excavators.
Managing director and chief executive officer (CEO) Sekharipuram Narayanan Subrahmanyan said, “We are delighted to receive these orders from our valuable customers, across various sectors, which is a strong indication of the revival taking place in the mining industry, driven by the progressive and supportive policies of the government of India.”
Shiva Cement to spend US$200m on new integrated plant in Odisha
27 November 2020India: Shiva Cement plans to invest around US$200m towards a new integrated cement plant in Sundergarh district, Odisha. The 1.36Mt clinker unit will also include a 1Mt/yr grinding unit, an 8MW waste heat recovery (WHR) unit, 4Mt/yr crushing plants at its dolomite and limestone quarries, a connecting 10km belt conveyor and a dedicated railway siding with a 12km track to the main network.
ThyssenKrupp Industries India will supply a 4000t/day clinker production line for the project. Larsen & Toubro has been awarded the contract for civil, mechanical and refractory erection work. The unit is expected to create around 500 jobs directly and indirectly. Commissioning is scheduled to take place by March 2022.
Parth Jindal, the managing director of JSW Cement said, "The new clinker unit at Shiva Cement in Odisha will provide a strategic advantage to service the needs of our customers in the region and further strengthen JSW Cement's leadership position in the Green Cement category in India.”
The subsidiary of JSW Cement intends to use the new plant as a strategic hub to access markets in the east of the country. It is part of the group’s aim to achieve a production capacity of 25Mt/yr by 2025.
Larsen & Toubro wins ACC Ametha contract
17 April 2020India: ACC Cement has awarded an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for work on its upcoming 1.0Mt/yr integrated Ametha plant in Kathnl, Madhya Pradesh to Larsen & Toubro. The Press Trust of India has reported that the 9500t/day cement plant will have a clinker capacity of 3.0Mt/yr. The value of the contract is reportedly US$131m.
India: Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has been awarded an order to build a cement plant in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh. The end client was not named but UltraTech Cement said in mid-June 2019 that it had received approval from the environment ministry to build a 6Mt/yr integrated cement plant in the same location. The plant will have a 60MW captive power plant and a 15MW waste heat recovery-based power unit. No value for the order has been disclosed.
India: Larsen & Toubro has won an order to build cement plants in Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. The end client has not been named and no value has been disclosed. The cement plant orders were announced as part of a wider set of orders worth over US$590m, including government construction projects.
