India: UltraTech Cement has commissioned a 1.3Mt/yr upgrade at its Dalla plant in Uttar Pradesh. Following the work the plant now has a total cement production capacity of 1.8Mt/yr. The cement producer said that the project was the first part of a capacity expansion drive previously announced in late 2020. It added that with this latest upgrade its total cement production capacity in India is just under 116Mt/yr.
India: Nuvoco Vistas is promoting its products in Northern India with the launch of its Double Bull cement brand in the region. As part of the initiative it has increased its dealer network in the states of Haryana, Western Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Delhi and Madhya Pradesh. It is also preparing to build a 1.2Mt/yr grinding plant at Bhiwani in Haryana to support its presence in the north of the country.
The cement producer manufactures Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC), Portland Slag Cement (PSC), Portland Pozzolana Cement (PPC) and Portland Composite Cement (PCC) products. Its flagship brands include the Concreto, Duraguard and Double Bull products.
India: Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL) says that it will inaugurate the 82km Punjab section of the upcoming Eastern Freight Corridor railway before the end of 2022. The line will form part of the 175km Punjab - Uttar Pradesh section and connect Western Indian cement plants and other industries by high-speed link with Central markets. Workers will divert the existing railway between Mandi Gobindgarh and Sirhind to make way for the line.
DFCCIL previously inaugurated the corridor's central Bhaupur - Khurja section in Uttar Pradesh in January 2021.
Kanodia Cement commissions Amethi grinding plant
19 April 2022India: Kanodia Cement has commissioned its new Amethi cement plant in Uttar Pradesh. The plant consists of four grinding units spread over an area of 18ha. Indo-Asian News Service has reported that the facility’s equipment includes two 12-spout rotary packers and six floor-mounted truck loading machines, supplied by Denmark-based FLSmidth. Kanodia Cement says that the new plant marks progress in line with its sustainable development plant. Its operations will directly and indirectly employ 1000 people.
Prism Johnson switches proposed grinding plant from Madhya Pradesh to Uttar Pradesh
02 February 2022India: Prism Johnson has decided to move a proposed increase in its cement grinding capacity from its integrated Satna plant in Madhya Pradesh to a location in eastern Uttar Pradesh. It has done so in response to geographical demand. Previously the cement producer said it was going to add around 1Mt/yr of grinding capacity for a cost of US$34m with a commissioning date scheduled for September 2023. Now it wants to build a 2Mt/yr grinding unit in Uttar Pradesh for around US$67m with a commissioning date by December 2024.
UltraTech Cement commissions Line 2 at Bara grinding plant
12 January 2022India: UltraTech Cement has commissioned the new 2Mt/yr Line 2 of its Bara grinding plant in Uttar Pradesh. The additional capacity will help the company to serve the growing Central Indian cement market. Its total installed capacity is now 115Mt/yr, up by 2.9% year-on-year from 111Mt.
UltraTech Cement says that the Bara grinding plant, which opened in January 2020, operated at 80% capacity utilisation in the 2020 financial year.
JK Cement to invest US$410m to expand capacity to 23Mt/yr by 2023
02 September 2021India: JK Cement plans to invest a total of US$410m in two new cement plant projects to expand its total production capacity to 23Mt/yr from 15Mt/yr. The Economic Times newspaper has reported that the company is in the process of establishing a 2Mt/yr integrated plant at Panna in Madhya Pradesh. It is in the process of establishing a second new integrated plant at Hamirpur in Uttar Pradesh, also with a capacity of 2Mt/yr. Both plants are scheduled for commissioning in 2023. The investments aim to increase the company’s presence in the northern and central Indian cement markets. 12Mt/yr of its current capacity is located in the region, compared to 3.0Mt/yr in the south.
Chief executive officer Madhav Singhania said “While the northern market is very attractive in terms of demand and capacity utilisation, we have the capabilities to become a market leader in the central region."
In 2020, JK Cement’s average capacity utilisation was between 75% and 80%.
India: The government of Uttar Pradesh plans to build over 10,000km of new roads in rural areas. The state is presently engaged in the construction of 6500km of road, consisting of 800 separate roads and five bridges. The Times of India newspaper has reported that the latest proposals await the approval of the national government. Some of the roads will be rebuilt using full depth reclamation with cement and other additives.
Gebr. Pfeiffer to supply modular grinding plant to Gallantt Industry’s Gorakhpur cement plant
05 May 2021India: Gallantt Industry has ordered a Ready2Grind compact grinding plant from Germany-based Gebr. Pfeiffer for its Gorakhpur cement plant in Uttar Pradesh. The supplier says that the 65t/hr-capacity plant will grind cement to a Blaine fineness of 3750cm²/g. The planned MVR 2500 C-4 represents the medium size of the portfolio of the supplier’s modular mill range. Due to the planned installation in the vicinity of a steelworks, blast furnace slag, steelworks slag from an induction furnace and fly ash from an in-house power plant will also be considered as supplementary cementitious materials addition to clinker and gypsum. The mill will be equipped with a 1270kW main drive and an integrated SLS 2650 VC high-performance classifier.
Jaiprakash Associates suspends operations at plants in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh due to coronavirus
05 May 2021India: Jaiprakash Associates has suspended operations at its cement plants in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh from 1 May 2021 due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak. The company say it will continue maintenance activities of these plants during this time. It described the situation as ‘dynamic’ and plans to resume operations after ongoing analysis.
