UTD Cement Uzbek plant project increased to 5Mt/yr
24 July 2019Uzbekistan: UTD Cement has increased the size of a new integrated cement plant it plans to build in the Farish district of Jizzakh region to 5Mt/yr from 4Mt/yr. The decision to increase the size of the upgrade has followed access to a new limestone quarry at Almaz, according to the Trend News Agency. Once completed the plant will produce 4Mt/yr of Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) and 1Mt/yr of white cement. UTD Holding is planning invest over Euro400m in the project. It is working with German companies Phoenix Consulting and MN Medianet.
Saudi Arabia: Denmark’s FLSmidth has revealed that it is working on a project to convert a grey cement production line at Alsafwa Cement to a dual-white and grey line. The modified kiln is expected to be commissioned in early 2020. The production objectives are to produce a minimum of 2000t/day white clinker with a maximum heat consumption of 1380kcal/kg clinker. No value for the project has been disclosed.
FLSmidth plans to install its Duoflex Burner inside the kiln. To minimise costs it says that only minor changes will be made to the current preheater with as much existing equipment as possible being reused. In this case, the oil handling equipment, clinker cooler, raw material storage system and raw mill grinding equipment will be reused.
Uzbekistan: German companies Phoenix Consulting and MN Medianet are planning to build a US$400m cement plant in the Farish district of the Jizzakh region. The unit will have a production capacity of 4Mt/yr, according to the Trend News Agency. It will operate as UTD Cement. The new plant is intended to produce 0.98Mt/yr of M500 type cement, 1.22Mt/yr of M600, 0.94Mt/yr of M900 and 0.86Mt/yr of white cement. It will also create up to 1500 jobs.
Phoenix Consulting is an independent, privately owned consulting and trading company operating worldwide with a focus on the Middle East and Europe. MN Medianet operates in the automated control systems sector.
US: Sesco Cement plans to build a new white cement terminal at Gibsonton in Florida. The unit will have a ship and railway links, according to the Tampa Bay Business Journal newspaper. The project will have an investment of US$19m. Construction is expected to take 18 months at the site. Based in Texas the company has links to the Royal El Minya white cement plant in Egypt via Sesco Group.
Egypt/Qatar/Russia/Turkey: Dal Engineering Group has released information about recent project from its Dal Teknik Makina subsidiary in Russia, Egypt and Qatar. In Russia Dal Teknik Makina is currently converting a production line at Eurocement’s Zhigulovskiye Stroymaterialy plant in Samara to manufacture white cement. The project started in November 2018.
In Egypt Dal Teknik Makina conducted a technical audit for HeidelbergCement’s Helwan Cement plant in February 2019. It was carried out on clinker production line one. In Qatar Dal Teknik Makina was awarded a contract in February 2019 to install a pilot scale plant for a calcium sulfoaluminate clinker production line. Dal’s engineers will evaluate the concept and identify the possible problems with operation, and supply the complete engineering and instrumentation for the whole project.
Algeria: LafargeHolcim Algeria has made two new export shipments from the Port of Oran. The first was a consignment of 15,000t of bulk grey cement from its Oggaz cement plant to West Africa, according to the El Moudjahid newspaper. The second was a dual consignment of 5000t of white clinker and 25,000t of grey clinker from the same plant to Cameroon. The cement producer said that the white clinker export was the first of its kind from Algeria.
Saudi Arabia: Al Jouf Cement has signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding with China’s Riga Company to convert its second production line to produce white cement. The agreement will last six months.
Cimencam inaugurates Nomayos cement grinding plant
04 April 2019Cameroon: Cimencam has inaugurated its 0.5Mt/yr Nomayos cement grinding plant. The company also launched a new logo, according to the Ecofin Agency. The new unit will manufacture the company’s MultiX CEM II 32.5 R Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) and its Sublime white cement products.
The subsidiary of LafargeHolcim is planning to regain lost market share in the country since Dangote Cement started operating locally. It is planning to build a new kiln at its Figuil integrated plant in Garoua, which is due for commissioning in 2020.
Spain: Turkey’s Çimsa Çimento has purchased Cemex’s white cement business in Spain, including its Buñol plant, for around US$180m. Cemex expects to sign the final agreement in April 2019 and close this divestment during the second half of 2019. The proposed divestment does not include Cemex’s white cement business in Mexico, nor its interest in Lehigh Cement in the US.
“With the purchase of the Buñol white cement plant in Spain, we are upgrading our game in the white cement sector, the highest value-added business in the global cement market. With the integration of the Buñol white cement plant to our production and distribution networks, we will increase our white cement production capacity by 40%, translating into Çimsa becoming the world's largest white cement company,” said Tamer Saka, the president of Sabancı Holding Cement Group and chairman of Çimsa. He added that Çimsa is among Turkey’s leading exporters. In 2018 it generated over 50% of its operational profit from overseas operations.
Once a final agreement is reached the transaction is subject to standard regulatory approval.
Algeria: LafargeHolcim Algeria has exported 10,000t of white cement to South Africa via the port of Oran to Cape Town. The consignment consists of its ‘Super White’ product from its Oggaz plant, according to the Algeria Press Service. The local subsidiary of LafargeHoclim operates two cement plants, at M’Sila and Oggaz respectively, and it runs a third plant at Biskra as a joint venture with Souakri Cilas Group.
