Dominican Republic: Germany-based Gebr. Pfeiffer has received an order for an MVR 3750 C-4 vertical roller mill from Estrella Group subsidiary Cemento PANAM. Cemento PANAM plans to install the mill at an upcoming grinding plant. It will be equipped with an SLS 4000 VC classifier and will produce 155t/hr of blended cement. China-based CBMI Construction will handle the order.
CBMI Construction previously won a contract to build a Cemento PANAM grinding plant in the Dominican Republic in March 2023. Global Cement News reported the capacity of the plant as 1.23Mt/yr.
US: Continental Cement has ordered a Fuelflex Pyrolyzer alternative fuels combustion system from Denmark-based FLSmidth for installation at its Davenport plant in Buffalo, Iowa. The supplier says that its product offers a lower capital expenditure compared to competing systems, can control NOx emissions without the need for ammonia water and can be installed without a long shutdown period. This is the first commercial installation of the Fuelflex Pyrolyzer system following a pre-commercial installation at the Mannok cement plant in Northern Ireland, UK, in 2022.
David Loomes, the president of Continental Cement, said “We’re very excited about what the Fuelflex Pyrolyzer will do for our process.” He added, “We’re planning to achieve 55% fossil fuel replacement across the plant, utilising non-hazardous waste that would otherwise go to landfill or incinerators. The economic and environmental benefits of this technology are very significant and a key element of executing our carbon reduction commitment.” Continental Cement, a subsidiary of Summit Materials, has been incorporating waste materials as fuels for more than 30 years.
Jens Jonas Skov Larsen, Head of Capital Sales at FLSmidth, said “Mannok has called the Fuelflex Pyrolyzer a game-changer for the cement industry.” He continued, “This system effectively rearranges the order of the combustion process to make use of hot preheater meal, which is the heat source for the waste fuel pyrolysis. It’s a more efficient way of burning alternative fuels and it comes with a host of benefits, including reduced emissions and a more stable process.”
The installation at Davenport cement plant is expected to start operation in 2024. The full commercial launch for the system is scheduled by 2025. No value for the order has been disclosed.
US: Swede-based Bruks Siwertell has received a conveyor system order for use at the integrated Capitol Aggregates cement plant in San Antonio, Texas. The order has been placed by Borton, a construction company.
Three new conveyor systems will modify the site’s existing material transport system and the addition of a new storage silos. They are all standard widths of 91cm. The C-810 type conveyor will be 148m in length and will transfer clinker to a bucket elevator at a rated capacity of 150t/hr. The 84m long C-940 type conveyor will have a rated capacity of 200t/hr and will transfer clinker to the silo reclaim, while the C-975 type conveyor will be 40m long and connect to an existing conveyor. It will also have a rated capacity of 200t/hr.
The conveyors are being fabricated in Mexico and will be delivered to the operator later in 2023.
Saudi Arabia: Riyadh Cement has ordered an airslide analyser from Switzerland-based SpectraFlow Analytics for its white cement production line. The contract also includes raw mix proportioning software. The product is an online analyser able to measure raw materials in airslides. The vendor says that by using its analyser, and a site-specific raw mix proportioning strategy, the variation in the local raw materials can be balanced out to increase consistency of the raw meal and kiln feed quality. Also the variable MgO, Na2O, K2O, Cl and SO3 content is optimally monitored.
This order is SpectraFlow Analytics’ 49th order for the cement Industry and the first airslide analyser installation in Saudi Arabia. This order raises the installed base in Saudi Arabia to seven analysers (6 crossbelt, 1 airslide) and worldwide to 71 analysers (40 crossbelt and 31 airslide).
SpectraFlow Analytics sells online analysis products to the cement, bauxite, gold, platinum, copper, potash, phosphate, coal and other minerals industries. Its products are based on near Infrared (NIR) spectroscopy as opposed to using radioactive sources or neutron generators.
Çimentaş orders equipment from Girisim Elektrik
14 April 2023Türkiye: Çimentaş has signed a contract to order an electrical switch facility and transmission line from Girisim Elektrik. The price of the deal is around US$3m.

Burkina Faso: Ciments de l'Afrique (CIMAF) has ordered a Polysius booster mill from Germany-based ThyssenKrupp Industrial Solutions (TKIS) for its grinding plant at Ouagadougou. This is the first industrial reference of the product that promises to allow a greater substitution of clinker with local filler by boosting the fineness and reactivity of the clinker. It will also maintain both cement quality to local standards and production capacity of the exiting ball mill at the unit.
Mohamed Naciri, the Regional General Manager for CIMAF, commented “Burkina Faso is a landlocked country where clinker has to travel at least 1200km to reach Ouagadougou, every technology aiming to decrease the cement clinker factor is welcome, this project is also an important milestone in our decarbonation road map, TKIS is a key partner for CIMAF to decrease our group CO2 footprint.”
CIMAF owns and operates 13 grinding plants in Africa. It runs plants in Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Ivory Coast, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea Bissau, Guinea, Mali, and Mauritania. CIMAF's parent company, Omnium des Industries et de la Promotion (OIP), is a cement supplier across north, west, and central Africa, producing about 12Mt/yr. It is the third largest cement producer in Morocco with two integrated plants.
West Africa: Germany-based InterCem has successfully despatched its second InterHop hopper to West Africa. The hopper will handle clinker and raw materials for an unnamed customer there. The supplier says that the equipment offers an unloading rate of 14,400t/hr. It produced it in the UAE.
