Grupo Argos named in Dow Jones Sustainability Index
15 November 2021Colombia: Dow Jones has named Grupo Argos in its Sustainability Index 2021, the company’s ninth time appearing in the ranking. It achieved its highest ratings in materiality, risk management, environmental reporting, climate change strategy, social reporting and human rights. The group said that the listing constitutes its recognition as the most sustainable cement company in the world. Its sustainable initiatives include offering collection of its used cement bags, supplying all the electricity for its Colombian operations from renewable sources and currently having three credit facilities linked to environmental, social and governance indicators.
Legal and sustainability vice-president Maria Isabel Echeverri said “At Argos, we are greatly satisfied with this result which places us as a world benchmark in sustainability and reassures our commitment to closing gaps and implementing best practices in social, environmental, financial and corporate governance matters. This drives us to continue moving forward in creating social value to build the dreams of housing and infrastructure for millions of people.”
Cementos Argos retains place in Dow Jones Sustainability Index
16 November 2020Colombia: Cementos Argos is celebrating its inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for the eighth consecutive year. The company said that the listing acknowledges its “good practices in economic, environmental and social matters.” Its owner Grupo Argos came second in the materials sector, which accounted for 4.3% of the total index weight, while the company itself came third. The index also highlighted it within the Latin American Integrated Market (MILA)-Pacific Alliance.
The company said, “One of the main advantages of this index is that it is a lever to promote cutting-edge business practices that seek to improve the impact of companies on society and the environment and, increasingly, to strengthen their relationship with different interest groups, whether they are communities, investors, suppliers, employees or authorities, among others.”
Taiheiyo Cement secures place in Dow Jones Sustainability Asia Pacific Index for fifth year in a row
27 September 2018Japan: Taiheiyo Cement has been selected to be part of the Dow Jones Sustainability Asia Pacific Index for the fifth consecutive year. The company was first chosen in 2014. The index is the Asia Pacific version of the Dow
Jones Sustainability Indices and it serves as a benchmarks for socially responsible investment.
Cementos Argos preserves place in Dow Jones Sustainability Index
14 September 2018Colombia: Cementos Argos has been ratified for the sixth consecutive year as a member of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI), which recognises good practices in terms of economic, environmental and social sustainability of the companies registered in stock markets. Celsia, a Grupo Argos energy subsidiary, was also included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for the Latin American Integrated Market (MILA) - Pacific Alliance, which recognises companies with the best economic, social and environmental practices in Chile, Peru, Mexico and Colombia. Grupo Argos and Cementos Argos were also included.
"Being ratified as world leaders in sustainability by Dow Jones is the result of our conscious investment, our commitment to a responsible operation of all our businesses, and our permanent interest to positively impact society, respecting our planet," said Jorge Mario Velasquez, chief executive officer (CEO) of Grupo Argos.
In 2018 more than 3500 companies around the world were invited to participate, but only 317 were selected as members of the worldwide DJSI.
Ambuja Cement ranks seventh in Dow Jones Sustainability Index
10 January 2018India: Ambuja Cement has been ranked seventh in the Construction Material category of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSJ) 2017. The subsidiary of LafargeHolcim was invited to participate in the DJSI Emerging Markets Index and beat its score from 2016. Each year about 2500 global companies, listed on the stock exchange, belonging to about 59 economic sectors, are invited to participate in the DJSI.
Taiheiyo Cement reaches Dow Jones Sustainability Asia Pacific Index for second year in a row
20 September 2016Japan: Taiheiyo Cement has been selected for the second consecutive year as a component of the Dow Jones Sustainability Asia/Pacific Index (DJSI Asia Pacific) in 2016. The cement producer was also selected for the DJSI Asia Pacific in 2015. This index is the Asia Pacific version of the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) and serves as one of the key benchmarks for socially responsible investment.
The DJSI are investment indices developed and offered cooperatively by the US-based S&P Dow Jones Indices and Switzerland-based RobecoSAM, which evaluate the sustainability of companies in terms of economic, environmental and social criteria. The DJSI Asia Pacific has selected the top 146 regional sustainability leaders, including 68 Japanese companies out of about 600 leading companies, from developed markets in the Asia Pacific region.
Colombia/Thailand: Cementos Argos has held its position in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) for the fourth consecutive year. Cementos Argos was featured as the most sustainable cement company in the world after obtaining the best score in the construction materials sector. The Colombia-based materials producer was listed along with Thailand’s Siam Cement.
"The permanence in this index confirms our business model, in which we start with sustainability and innovation as pillars of the strategy to create value for our customers, shareholders, communities, employees, and other stakeholders,” said Juan Esteban Calle, CEO of Cementos Argos.
Argos obtained the best score among the following variables: Biodiversity, Operational Eco efficiency, Water related risks, Social Reporting, Labour Practice Indicators and Human Rights, Tax Strategy, Corporate Citizenship and Philanthropy, Human Talent Development and Talent Attraction and retention. In addition to being included in the Global Index, Cementos Argos was recognised in Emerging Markets for the fourth consecutive year.

Cementos Argos included in the DJSI for the third consecutive year
11 September 2015Colombia: The Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) has selected Cementos Argos one of the three most sustainable cement companies in the world. For the third consecutive year, the company was included in the World and Emerging Markets Indices.
For the economic dimension, Argos obtained the highest score in the industry, nearly doubling its average score. It was also the best-placed company for aspects such as transparency, compliance and conduct, risk management and supply chain. For the social dimension, it got the best score for human capital development and social reporting. Finally, for the environmental dimension, it scored best in biodiversity, water-related risks and international production standards.
"This recognition truly reflects Argos' spirit. The conviction of doing work that is carried out comprehensively and delicately in order to find a balance between social, economic and environmental aspects and, through our efforts, taking the lead in building a better society in the countries in which we operate," said Jorge Mario Velásquez, Cementos Argos' CEO.
