Cemex is an Energy Star Partner of the Year 2020
28 April 2020US: The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has declared Cemex USA an Energy Star Partner of the Year, the highest award for energy-efficient production in the US. Cemex USA President Jaime Muguiro said, “Sustainability is embedded in our day-to-day operations and is an integral part of our core business strategy. Energy conservation is part of our vision as we are building a better future and believe it’s our responsibility to vigorously practice energy management through on-going initiatives and the use of alternative fuels.”
Cemex USA has earned more than 50 Energy Stars since 2007.
US: The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has declared the Portland Cement Association its 2020 Energy Star Partner of the Year. The appointment recognises the PCA’s ‘leadership, innovation and commitment to environmental protection through energy efficiency. PCA president and CEO Mike Ireland said, “PCA and its members have greatly benefited from participation in the Energy Star programme. Cement plants have total annual source energy savings of 6.38bn mega joules and have reduced energy-related CO2 emissions by 1.5Mt/yr.”
CalPortland’s Rillito plant wins Energy Star
17 March 2020US: The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded Energy Star certification to Japan-based Taiheiyo Cement subsidiary CalPortland’s 1.3Mt/yr integrated Rillito plant for the eighth consecutive year for its superior energy performance compared with other plants of comparable capacity in the country. CalPortland president and CEO Allen Hamblen said, “We continue to demonstrate our commitment to environmental stewardship and ENERGY STAR while also reducing our energy costs through the hard work of our employees and our corporate energy management culture.”
Two Buzzi Unicem plants and one Alamo Cement plant granted 2019 Energy Star certification
24 December 2019US: The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded 2019 Energy Star Certification to Italy-based Buzzi Unicem’s Chattanooga, Tennessee and Festus, Missouri plants and Alamo Cement Company’s San Antonio, Texas plant for achieving Energy Performance Indicator scores of over 75 and over three years’ satisfactory environmental compliance. This places the plants in the top quarter of ‘similar facilities’ for energy efficiency nationwide.
US: Cemex USA’s Miami and Brooksville South cement plants in Florida have been awarded Energy Star certification for 2019 by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for work on energy efficiency and sustainability. The current year’s recognition marks nine consecutive years of Energy Star certification for the Miami plant and the Brooksville South plant has achieved the certification seven out of the last eight years.
“Cemex is committed to delivering world-class products and services to its clients across the US and the globe while maintaining the highest sustainability standards in our industry,” said Cemex USA president Jaime Muguiro.
To earn the recognition, operations at each plant followed energy-efficiency principles established by the EPA’s Energy Star guidelines and implemented energy conservation technologies along with energy-reduction projects. The recognised facilities were among the top 25% of similar US facilities for energy conservation and met the Energy Star Plant Energy Performance Indicators.
Argos’ Harleyville cement plant receives Energy Star certification for the second year running
22 August 2019US: The Environmental Protection Agency has recognised Cementos Argos’ South Carolina Harleyville Plant’s commitment to sustainable development in the United States with a second Energy Star. The award acknowledges energy efficiency and preservation of environmental resources 25% above that of comparable facilities across the US. The plant joins Argos’ consecutive Energy Star-holding plants at Newberry, Florida and Roberta, Alabama.
Cemex USA awarded 2019 Energy Star Partner of the Year
16 April 2019US: Cemex USA has been awarded the 2019 Energy Star Partner of the Year by the Environment Protection Agency (EPA) for its efforts in energy management. It was presented with the award by the EPA and the US Department of Energy at a ceremony in Washington, DC.
“At Cemex, sustainability is key to our vision of building a better future, embedded in our core business strategy and day-to-day operations,” said Cemex USA President Ignacio Madridejos. “We strive to conserve energy where possible with energy management initiatives, and many of our operations have received repeated recognition for their efforts. Cemex is also incorporating the use of more alternative fuels.”
US: The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded Energy Star certification to Buzzi Unicem USA’s plants at Chattanooga in Tennessee, Festus in Missouri, Maryneal in Texas and San Antonio in Texas. This certification is awarded to a facility for superior energy performance in comparison to similar plants. This marks the 10th consecutive year that the Chattanooga, Festus and Maryneal plants have received certification and the fifth consecutive year for the San Antonio plant.
US: Argos USA’s Harleyville cement plant in South Carolina and Grupo Cementos de Chihuahua’s (GCC) Pueblo plant in Colorado have been awarded Energy Star certification by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for the first time. Altogether 100 manufacturing plants across different industries earned the certification in 2018.
24 cement plants received the certification in 13 states. These cement companies included Alamo Cement, Argos USA, Buzzi Unicem, CalPortland, Cemex, Continental Cement, GCC, Holcim US, Lehigh Cement, Salt River Materials and Titan America.
“America’s cement manufacturers’ commitment to sustainable manufacturing have led to improved equipment reliability, energy efficiency, and the increased the use of alternative fuels,” said Portland Cement Association president and chief executive officer (CEO) Mike Ireland.
US: Continental Cement’s Hannibal plant has been awarded Energy Star certification by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). To qualify for the certification the cement producer was required to perform in the top 25% of cement plants nationwide for total energy efficiency (thermal and electrical) and meet environmental performance levels set by the EPA.
“Continental Cement Company is pleased to accept EPA’s Energy Star certification in recognition of our energy efficiency efforts,” said Matt Helms, plant manager at the unit.
To earn the Energy Star certification Continental Cement established an energy management policy, it identified operating characteristics and energy usage, it promoted energy efficiency and it followed the Energy Star guidelines for energy management.
