Russia: Eurocement has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Dry Building Mixes Manufacturers Union about using white cement. The deal was signed by Jaroslav Stoupa, the president of production and technical development at Eurocement, and Roman Borisov, the head of the Dry Building Mixes Manufacturers Union, at a trade conference in Moscow. The agreement connects the producers and users of white cement and it allows for the technical exchange of data about the product’s market requirements. It follows Eurocement’s plans to develop a white cement production line at its Zhigulovskiye Stroymaterialy plant in Samara in mid-2019.
Tabuk Cement signs deal to export 6000t of cement to Yemen
27 November 2018Saudi Arabia/Yemen: Tabuk Cement has signed a memorandum of understanding to export 6000t of cement to Yemen. The agreement has a duration of three months.
Taiwan Cement deal with Sanko Group progresses
17 September 2018Taiwan/Turkey: Taiwan Cement and Turkey’s Sanko Holding have signed a memorandum of understanding and a confidentiality clause about the company’s plan to invest in Sanko’s cement business. Taiwan Cement said it would continue talks with the Turkish business group about a strategic partnership and would make details public once the parties sign a definitive contract, according to the Taipei Times newspaper. The cooperation agreement was first announced in June 2018.
Mechel signs coal deal with Jidong Cement
22 December 2017China/Russia: Mechel has signed a memorandum for coal supply with China’s Jidong Cement. The Russian mining and metals company will supply the Jidong Cement with up to 3Mt of steam coal mined at Elgaugol’s Elga Open Pit and Yakutugol’s Neryungrinsky Open Pit. Prices will be adjusted on a monthly basis following negotiations and on the basis of index rates.
“Jidong Cement is our longstanding and strategic partner in Asia, and we aim to continue our long-term and mutually profitable partnership. Mechel’s mining division has met all its obligations on our prior agreement. Today, Jidong Cement is the chief foreign consumer of Elga’s steam coal,” said Mechel chief executive officer (CEO) Oleg Korzhov.
Saudi Arabia: The Saudi Industrial Exports Company (SIEC) has signed a memorandum of understanding with Al Jouf Cement Company to export its products internationally. The Saudi government lifted a ban on exporting cement in 2016.
Tanzania: Kibo Mining has signed a memorandum of understanding with Mbeya Cement, a subsidiary of LafargeHolcim, to collaborate regionally and to share materials in the Mbeya and Songwe regions. The agreement includes arrangements to supply coal, limestone, fly ash, electricity and cement between the parties. It also includes plans to bring together local development bodies to develop the region.
Kibo Mining operates a thermal coal deposit at Mbeya and it is developing a 250 – 350MW coal power plant at the site with the help of Chinese contractors.
Ethiopia and China sign cement industry agreement
13 March 2017Ethiopia: Representatives of the Ethiopian and Chinese cement industries have signed a memorandum of understanding at the 2017 Ethio-China Cement Forum. Industry Minister Alemu Sime said that the forum was ‘vital’ to bring Chinese skills and experience into the local industry, according to the Ethiopian Herald newspaper. Representatives from the Chinese Cement Association, the Ethiopian Cement Association and local producers were in attendance.
Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation and Al Rajhi Group to upgrade Chhatak Cement plant
21 October 2016Bangladesh: The government owned Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) has signed a memorandum of understanding with Saudi Arabia’s Al Rajhi Group to build a new production line and a captive power plant at the Chhatak Cement plant. The project is a joint venture between the companies and it will be run as a public-private partnership, according to the Financial Express newspaper. The new cement line and power plant will have a production capacity of 1.5Mt/yr and 330MW respectively. Industries minister Amir Hossain Amu, BCIC secretary Hasnath Ahmed Chowdhury and managing director of Al Rajhi Company for Industry & Trade Yousif Al Rajhi signed the agreement in Bangladesh on 20 October 2016.
India: The refractories division of Dalmia Bharat Group has signed a memorandum of understanding for a joint venture with Seven Refractories to develop and supply a wide range of monolithic refractories for the Indian market.
“We are committed to bringing the most advanced solutions to our customers across the iron, steel and cement industries. This partnership will combine the strengths of both companies to provide customised solutions with the latest monolithic refractory technology combined with quicker deliveries and localised services,” said Sameer Nagpal, CEO-Refractories, Dalmia Bharat Group.
Shree Cement completes upgrade in Rajasthan and announces plans to build grinding plant in Jharkhand
20 July 2016India: Shree Cement has completed the upgrade of a preheater on the clinker production line of Unit-I at its Beawar cement plant in Rajasthan. The clinker production capacity of the plant has now increased to 1.4Mt/yr from 1.1Mt/yr.
Meanwhile the cement producer has signed a memorandum of understanding with the government of Jharkhand to build a 2Mt/yr cement grinding plant in Sarai Kale Karasawa. The plant will have an investment cost of US$73m.
