Fives opens new sales office in US
06 December 2018US: France’s Fives has opened a new sales office for its cement and minerals businesses. The new location is intended to better address the US market to promote FCB technologies and services for the cement and minerals industries, in the fields of equipment, systems, revamping and complete line projects.
Aucotec lays foundation stone for new head office
29 October 2018Germany: Aucotec is building a new head office near its current site in Hanover. The new 3700m2 office has an investment of nearly Euro12m and is planned for opening in February 2020. However, it is located outside the state capital in neighbouring Isernhagen. The decision to expand the head office follows continued growth at the company and its subsidiaries in Europe, Asia and the US.
Russia: Germany’s Aumund has held a technical seminar to mark the opening of its new office in St Petersburg. Previously, the conveying and bulk storage company operated an office in Moscow but it decided to relocate to be nearer to Russian design institutes and engineering companies based in St Petersburg. The official opening of the site was held in late August 2018.
US: Air Products is preparing to build a new global headquarters in Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania. The new site will be situation around 2km from its existing location in Allentown. Ground breaking is expected in March 2019 with occupancy scheduled for the summer of 2021. The new location will be the base for approximately 2000 Air Products employees with capacity for growth.
The decision to change headquarters has been taken to allow the company to modernise its facilities. The new headquarters site will include new administration offices, a research and development (R&D) facility, and an enclosed parking structure for employees.
Air Products operates an industrial gases business providing atmospheric and process gases and related equipment to manufacturing markets, including the cement and lime industries as well as refining and petrochemical, metals, electronics, and food and beverage sectors. Air Products is also a supplier of liquefied natural gas process technology and equipment.
Wamgroup inaugurates technology centre
26 June 2018Italy: Wamgroup has inaugurated its new technology centre in Cavezzo. The centre will be used for research, training and as a showroom, according to local media. The enginering company specialises in screw conveyors as well we manufacturing equipment for bulk solids handling and processing, dust filtration, waste water treatment and renewable energy generation. It celebrates its 50th year of business in 2018 following its founding in late 1968.
Cemex UK to move to new headquarters in Rugby
20 June 2018UK: Cemex UK will move its headquarters from Thorpe, Surrey to its offices in Rugby, Warwickshire from 1 July 2018. The new premises were the former global head offices for the Rugby Group until 2000. To date the Rugby offices have provided a regional centre for the company. From July 2018 the senior leadership team and all back-office functions such as taxation, communications and human resources will be based at Rugby, working alongside business areas such as the national customer service centre, Marketing and logistics.
“Rugby lies geographically at the centre of our UK business and with changing patterns of working such as increased working from home and from operational sites, it makes good business sense to consolidate our offices. Rugby and the Rugby brand are at the ‘heart’ of our business and the creation of the new headquarters will ensure greater efficiency and communication,” said Michel Andre, Country President, Cemex UK.
Beumer opens new sales office in Ruhr area
19 June 2018Germany: Beumer has opened a new sales office in the Ruhr area. The new ‘West’ office will enable Beumer Customer Support to handle worldwide retrofitting and modernisation projects including, for example, currently operating conveying systems like bucket elevators and clinker conveyors, and those from other suppliers. The engineering company says that its goal is to cooperate closely with its headquarters in Beckum and provide everything from one source, from receiving a query, to technical dimensioning and on-site installation.
LafargeHolcim to close Paris headquarters
25 May 2018France/Switzerland: LafargeHolcim plans to close its headquarters in Paris. The decision to move the company’s head office solely to Switzerland follows a cost cutting review at the building materials company. It will also close its corporate office in Zurich. Remaining jobs in Switzerland will be moved to the company’s Holderbank site and a new corporate office in Zug. In Paris, remaining positions will be moved to Clamart. The plan is expected to be completed by the end of 2018. Around 200 jobs will be affected.
“This painful but necessary simplification step is key to creating a leaner, faster and more competitive LafargeHolcim,” said chief executive officer Jan Jenisch. The move follows decisions to close offices in Singapore and Miami.
The decision to close its headquarters in Paris marks a further move away from the ‘merger of equals’ announced when France’s Lafarge merged with Switzerland’s Holcim in 2015. Since the merger LafargeHolcim has underperformed reporting a loss of Euro1.46bn in 2017. Former senior executives from Lafarge have become embroiled in a legal investigation looking at the company’s conduct in Syria. LafargeHolcim’s first chief executive officer Eric Olsen resigned from the company in mid-2017 following fallout from a review into the Syria affair.
Anhui Conch to open office in Tunis
03 April 2018Tunisia: China’s Anhui Conch plans to open an office in Tunis to explore investment opportunities. A delegation from the cement producer met with Slim Feriani, the Minister of Industry and Small and Medium Enterprises, according to African Manager.
Cementos Molins to move registered address to Madrid
23 October 2017Spain: Cementos Molins is moving its registered address from the town of Sant Vicenc dels Horts in Catalonia, to Madrid. Sources quoted by the Expansión newspaper say it is due to the legal uncertainty in Catalonia. The company will continue to operate its cement plant in Sant Vicenc dels Horts but the publicly traded company and the group's holding, through which it channels its foreign investments, will be moved.
The Catalan regional government approved an independence referendum held in early October 2017. The central Spanish government rules it illegal and has moved to impose direct rule on the region.
