ACC’s net profit falls in first quarter of 2017
24 April 2017India: ACC’s net profit after tax has fallen by 9% year-on-year to US$32.7m in the first quarter of 2017 from US$36m in the same period in 2016. Its sales revenue grew by 8% to US$482m and its cement sales volumes grew by 4% to 6.6Mt. The cement producer blamed the fall in profit on higher costs of petcoke, coal, packing materials and freight, as well as a shortage of fly ash. ACC also reported that it launched two new products in 2017, including ACC High Performance Cement (HPC), a slag cement.
UK: Flexicon has launched its Bulk-Out bulk bag discharging system for use in explosive environments. The model features a pneumatically-powered hoist and trolley to raise and position the bag inside the discharger frame, reducing the risk of potential sparks from electrical equipment or fork trucks that might be otherwise used for this function.
A Spout-Lock clamp ring forms a dust seal between the clean side of the bag spout and the clean side of the equipment, while a Tele-Tube telescoping tube maintains downward tension on the bag as it empties and elongates, promoting complete discharge of free- and non-free-flowing material from the bag. The all-stainless-steel construction is designed to withstand corrosive environments and allows rapid, thorough wash down with caustic cleaning solutions. The unit is available with a hopper and pneumatically-driven flexible screw conveyor, a tubular cable conveyor or a rotary airlock valve to feed material into a pneumatic conveyor line.
Nepal: Arghakhanchi Cement has launched Arghakhanchi MP OPC Cement in new waterproof packaging. The cement producer says that the new packaging will protect the cement from moisture and prevent leakage of cement, according the Kathmandu Post. The new bags are also intended to ensure a standard weight for the product. The company plans to increase its production capacity from its plant at Mainahiya, Rupandehi to 60,000 bags/day from the end of 2017.
Germany: Currax is promoting its Integrated Drive System for use by conveyor belt systems in the raw material sector. The complete drive train uses components made by Siemens that are then tailored for a conveyor’s particular requirements. Parts of the system include: the Simotics FD Motor, a conveyor belt drive with a power range of 200 – 1800kW; the Flender B3SH Gear units that are avaialble in various sizes; and the Rupex Bolt coupling, an additonal element for conveyor belt drives that are use as elastic compensating couplings and that provides a torque range of 200 – 130,000Nm. Currax is an enginering company based in Hamburg that provides and distributes products for the drive chain.
Haver & Boecker promotes Roto-Packer RVT
20 March 2017Germany: Haver & Boecker is promoting its Roto-Packer RVT, a new model in its Roto-Packer series that was launched in mid-2016. The machine is designed for packing fine and ultra-fine cement at up to 6000 bags/hr. Key features and options include a Roto-Lock dosing unit, a MEC weighing system, Seal technology, LED lighting for a simplified user experience and Haver Quattro technology.
“Our team spent lots of time analysing the customer needs, brainstorming ideas and finding best solutions, which led us, beside other issues, to redesign the dosing system and inventing the Roto-Lock,” said Wolfgang Bednarz, manager of the Cement Business Unit at Haver & Boecker.
Following customer feedback the dosing system was redesigned in the series and the Roto-Lock replaced the slide gate dosing and shut-off valves (slide plates) to allow clean filling without spillage. Many older models can also be refurbished with the new system. The MEC weighing system serves as a scale and a configurable control system for the entire packing system providing ideal bag weight and helping to eliminate product waste.
Rexnord launches ‘smart’ PT Select Bearings
08 March 2017US: Rexnord has launched so-called ‘smart’ PT Select Mounted Spherical Roller Bearings. These bearings are targeted for conveyor, fan and blower applications in the cement, aggregate, material and package handling industries. They also include product specific QR codes laser-etched on to each product linking to product specific information that links to a dedicated mobile application. The bearings also include engineered bearing seals to increase product life, such as standard triple lip and clearance seals to provide ingress protection against contaminants, to reduce operating temperatures at higher speeds and they feature nitrile material with protective metal shield.
US: E Instruments plans to release its E8500 Cooled NOx portable emissions analyser in the spring of 2017. The product is intended to increase its accuracy of its NO gas sensor at higher temperatures than normal, particularly above 40°C. The E8500 Cooled NOx keeps the NO sensor cooled with an internal cooling system. The analyser measures, displays and records the NO sensor temperature to make it easier to comply with US Environment Protection Agency (EPA) conditional test methods such as CTM-030. The E8500 Cooled NOx also comes with a Sample Conditioning Unit that cools and dries the stack gas at the probe handle to minimise the time that the gas has in contact with the condensate.
Haver & Boecker to launch Quattro System Monitoring
28 February 2017Germany: Haver & Boecker plans to launch its Quattro System Monitoring product at the Interpack 2017 exhibition, taking place at Düsseldorf in May 2017. The mineral processing and packaging technology company will also feature its newly developed Roto-Packer RVT packing system and Elementra inline packer. Its subsidiary Newtech Bag Palletizing will also be present at the event with its Terram 1000 palletizer.
The Quattro System Monitoring is a ‘smart system’ that allows real-time production and maintenance information on packing machines can be viewed on a variety of devices either locally or remotely via a secure connection. The company says that the system, ‘allows machines to be operated more profitably and processes to be laid out and planned more intelligently.’ The product can also be retrofitted to existing machines.
Haver & Boecker will also be running a parallel event at its headquarters in Oelde in May 2017 to invite customers to live machine demonstrations.
India: Burnpur Cement plans to launch a new product PPC (Pozolona Portland Cement) from its Patratu plant in late April 2017. Following the launch the cement producer hopes to increase its capacity utilisation rate at the plant to 100%. Burnpur Cement operates two integrated cement plants in the east of the country.
UK: Thermoteknix has announced the launch of its ThermaScope HD kiln and cooler camera Multi-View system at the Global CemFuels Conference 2017 taking place in Barcelona. The new measurement, recording and analysis system for Thermoteknix HD kiln and cooler cameras provides real time screen displays with picture-in-picture layouts to coordinate and continuously record video data and events. A user Interface (UI) has been introduced to maximise the image presentation and to carry out temperature recording, I/O, alarms and analysis in the background. Full OPC compliance gives integration to plant automation and control without the need for custom programming.
An updating time line provides access to past history allowing the user to scroll the kiln and/or cooler video backwards or forwards in time to review, recall or compare fuel changes and events in the pyro process. ThermaScope Multiview software allows the operator to navigate graphically through past events, viewing the kiln process as on-going and illustrated in the timeline.
Multi-View provides the engineer with the ability to trend prospectively or retrospectively any point or area in the image by placing tools on the live (or historic) image to show the effects caused by changes in operational parameters, fuel, combustion, kiln speed, or other factors affecting production and clinker quality.
