Loma Negra reduces staff at Barker cement plant
08 May 2019Argentina: Loma Negra is planning to make 100 staff redundant at its Barker cement plant in Buenos Aires. It employs 230 direct employees and 90 others at the site, according to Infobae. The cement producer says it is reducing staffing levels in order to adjust the plant’s production capacity to the local market. It has also threatened to close the plant entirely if it is unable to reach an agreement over the redundancies with the union.
Nesher Israel Cement lays off 20 workers at Haifa plant
28 November 2018Israel: Nesher Israel Cement has dismissed 20 workers at its Haifa plant. The redundancies took place in October 2018 due to a fall in production, according to the Globes newspaper. The company is also considering making staff change at its Ramla plant. Previously, Israeli cement producers have blamed Turkey and Greece for declining business and have lobbied for anti-dumping tariffs.
PPC makes redundancies at head office in poor market

A source quoted by Business Report told the newspaper that staff redundancies had taken place already. The fall in sales has been blamed on poor local economic growth, the impact of a value added tax (VAT) increase on consumer spending and problems in the construction industry, including a fall in large infrastructure projects and private non-residential building.
