Thailand: Siam Cement Group (SCG) will allocate US$6bn between 2025 and 2030 to improve the sustainability of its businesses. The investment focuses on SCG Chemicals and SCG Cleanergy, with the latter increasing its renewable power capacity to 3500MW by 2030 and constructing a new heat battery unit for energy storage at the SCG cement plant in Saraburi. The company is also looking to expand into Vietnam, Indonesia and the Philippines.

President and chief executive Thammasak Sethaudom said “We focus on these businesses as they promise sustainable growth, in line with our inclusive green growth mission.”

India: SCG International India has announced the launch of a joint venture with autoclaved aerated concrete block producer Bigbloc Construction. The joint venture will produce and sell lightweight concrete panels. It expects to commission a new 2.6Mm³/yr concrete panel plant in Gujarat in 2022. Bigbloc Construction holds the majority 52% stake in the venture.

Thailand: SCG International has chosen US-based Black & Veatch to help with the acceleration of its electric vehicle uptake across hundred of sites spanning its operations, including cement. The US Trade and Development Agency has given the group a grant towards three logistics fleet electrification pilot projects.

India: SCG International Corporation has agreed to provide marketing services for BigBloc Construction’s autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) panels and other building products. United News of India has reported that BigBloc Construction expects to benefit from the partnership through the creation of a business development foundation for its AAC panels. SCG International Corporation is a subsidiary of Thailand-based cement producer Siam Cement Group (SCG).
