Titan Cement’s first-half 2022 sales rise

28 July 2022

Greece: Titan Cement’s consolidated sales rose by 26% year-on-year to Euro1.04bn in the first half of 2022 from Euro821m in the first half of 2021. The group’s US sales rose by 23% to Euro595m from Euro482m. Its Southeastern Europe sales grew by 28% to Euro169m, while its Greece and Western Europe sales grew by 21% to Euro158m and its Eastern Mediterranean sales grew by 49% to Euro113m. The producer also holds a stake in Brazil-based Cimento Apodi, which recorded sales growth of 38% to Euro50.5m. Titan Cement’s earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) amounted to Euro139m, down by 2.5% from Euro143m. The producer expects cost pressures to persist throughout 2022. It says that its focus is on safeguarding its production, protecting its margins, improving its efficiencies and continuing with its carbon mitigation strategies.

Titan Cement’s CO2 emissions per tonne of cementitious product fell by 5.6% year-on-year, driven by a reduction in the clinker factor.

Cement producers bid for LafargeHolcim Brasil

02 August 2021

Brazil: Cement producers including CSN Cimentos, Cimentos Mizu, Cimento Apodi, InterCement and Votorantim have all bid for Holcim’s assets in Brazil. A consortium of CSN Cimentos, Cimentos Mizu and Cimento Apodi is reportedly intending to buy up to 10 production plants, according to sources quoted by Reuters. InterCement and Votorantim have also made offers but are bidding for smaller parts of the business due to competition law restrictions.

Votorantim has bid for plants in the north-eastern of the country and InterCement for those in the south-eastern states of Rio de Janeiro, Espirito Santo and Minas Gerais. Any eventual proposed acquisition will be subject to scrutiny by the Administrative Council for Economic Defence (CADE). Holcim expects to generate US$1 – 1.5bn from the eventual sale.

Titan results gather momentum in first three quarters of 2016

04 November 2016

Greece: Titan’s turnover has risen by 9.2% year-on-year to Euro1.12bn for the first nine months of 2016 from Euro1.03bn in the same period of 2015. Its earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) rose by 24.2% to Euro205m from Euro165m. It attributed the result to growth in the US market and improvements in Egypt.

In the US the cement producer’s turnover rose by 17.7% to Euro584m and in Greece it grew by 4.9% to Euro188m despite negative currency effects. This was due partly to increased production and sales volumes and partly to the decline in production costs following the gradual conversion of its plants to solid fuels.

In addition, the group concluded its deal to buy a 50% stake in Cimento Apodi in Brazil in September 2016. Cimento Apodi owns a cement plant in Quixeré that has operated since 2015 and a grinding cement plant in Pecém near Fortaleza, that has been in operation since 2011. It has a production capacity of over 2Mt/yr.

Titan buys stake in Cimento Apodi

04 August 2016

Brazil: Greece’s Titan Cement has agreed to acquire an equity stake in Companhia Industrial de Cimento Apodi, a Brazilian cement producer that operates in Ceará in Northeast Brazil. Through a joint venture agreement, Cimento Apodi will be jointly owned and controlled on a 50/50 basis by the Dias Branco Group and a TITAN-Sarkis subsidiary, in which Titan is the majority shareholder. Titan’s investment in the purchase will be determined when the deal closes but it is expected to be about US$100m.

The assets of Cimento Apodi include an integrated cement plant in Quixeré that has operated since 2015 and a cement grinding plant in Pecém port, near to Fortaleza, that has operated since 2011. Cimento Apodi has cement production capacity of over 2Mt/yr.
