GICA Group’s Hadjar Soud plant exports first clinker to Ivory Coast

Algeria: GICA Group’s Hadjar Soud cement plant has made its first 37,000t clinker shipment to the Ivory Coast via the Port of Annaba. It is part of a 0.2Mt/yr consignment planned for 2019 from the unit, according to the Algeria Press Service. Overall, GICA intends to export 1.5Mt of clinker to African countries in 2019.

Prestige Cement inaugurates grinding plant in Abidjan

Ivory Coast: Prestige Cement has inaugurated a 1.2Mt/yr plant at Abidjan. The Chinese-Ivorian joint venture had an investment of around US$35m, according to the Agence de Presse Africaine. The unit has two 0.6Mt/yr production lines using vertical roller mills. Souleymane Diarrassouba, Minister of Commerce, Industry and SME Promotion, attended the event on behalf of the government. Chinese ambassador Tang Weibin was also in attendence.

Ivory Coast imported 3.1Mt of clinker in 2018

Ivory Coast: Imports of clinker rose by 2.3% year-on-year to 3.10Mt in 2018 from 3.03Mt in 2017. The value of the product increased by 9.7% to US$162m from US$148m, according to Connection Ivoirienne. Clinker surpassed crude oil as the most imported commodity by volume into the country in 2017.

Whale Rock Cement eyes up export market

Namibia: Whale Rock Cement says it plans to start exporting cement to countries in Africa following the accreditation of its Cheetah Cement products with the Namibia Standards Institute and the South African Bureau of Standards. It hopes to send its exports to Mozambique, Congo and Ivory Coast, according to the Namibian Sun newspaper. The cement producer started producing clinker at its 1.2Mt/yr integrated plant near Otjiwarongo in late 2018. Prior to this it was importing clinker from Egypt.

New cement plant planned for Ivory Coast

Ivory Coast: A new cement plant is being planned for construction near Gagnoa. Mayor Issouf Diabaté made the announcement to the city council, according to the Agence Ivoirienne de Presse. Sales tests on cement from the company building the plant are being conducted in the local market. The preferred location for the plant is in Galbré sub-prefecture between Soubré and Gagnoa.

TDI provides update on Ivory Coast grinding project

Ivory Coast: China’s Tianjin Cement Industry Design & Research Institute says that it received the provisional acceptance certificate (PAC) from an unnamed customer for a grinding plant project in late November 2018. Commissioning, first cement production and project sign-off was received for the two lines. Cimasso, a subsidiary of Cim Metal Group, reported first cement production at its new 2.6Mt/yr grinding plant Bobo Dioulasso in November 2018.

Cimasso produces first cement bag at Bobo Dioulasso grinding plant

Burkina Faso: Cimasso has produced the first bag of cement at its new 2.6Mt/yr grinding plant at Bobo Dioulasso. The subsidiary of Cim Metal Group met the milestone in early November 2018, according to the Le Pays newspaper. The official inauguration of the unit is planned for the end of November 2018. It follows first production at Ciments de Côte d’Ivoire’s (Cimivoire) 3Mt/yr grinding plant in Abidjan in the Ivory Coast in September 2018. Cimivoire is another subsidiary of Cim Metal Group. The plant was built using loans from the West African Development Bank (BOAD).

Ivory Coast hits cement production capacity of 10Mt/yr

12 November 2018

Ivory Coast: Xavier Saint-Martin-Tillet, the head of the Ivory Coast Cement Association, says that the country has a cement production capacity of 10Mt/yr. However, the local market is estimated to only consume 4Mt/yr, according to the Agence de Presse Africaine. Saint-Martin-Tillet made the comment at the Abidjan Infrastructure Exhibition.

LafargeHolcim launches road cement product in Ivory Coast

09 November 2018

Ivory Coast: LafargeHolcim has launched Bélier Cement CemRoute, its first road cement product in the country. It was presented at the Exhibition of Infrastructures of Abidjan. It follows joint work between LafargeHolcim’s research centre and the Laboratory of Public Works of Ivory Coast.

The cement producer says that the new product offers specific advantages to road builders including releasing less heat than other comparable products, less cracking and increased durability of pavements by improving the bearing capacity of the soil.

LafargeHolcim also used the product launch to introduce the ‘LaboMobile,’ a mobile laboratory for on-site analysis. The laboratory is intended to help builders improve the performance of their work through material identification, concrete formulation, optimisation studies and/or control.

LafargeHolcim Ivory Coast launches Bélier SuperBric product

29 August 2018

Ivory Coast: LafargeHolcim Ivory Coast has launched Bélier SuperBric. The 52.5N strength cement product is being marketed for its fast setting time, strength and economic advantages. The subsidiary of Switzerland’s LafargeHolcim is also using the product launch to promote its online sales platform, which offers delivery timing and tracking.

At the launch ceremony for the new product Felix Anoblé, the secretary of the state to the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Promotion of Small and Medium Sized Enterprises, said that local cement producers had invested US$130m on inreasing production capacity between 2015 and 2017. Production capacity rose to 7.2Mt/yr in 2018 from 2.9Mt/yr in 2015.
