Russia: Sibirsky Cement’s production from its three plants has remained stable year-on-year at 2.5Mt for the first nine months of 2018. Its Topkinsky plant manufactured around 1.7Mt, Krasnoyarsky Cement’s production rose by 8% to 0.54Mt and Timlyuysk Cement’s output fell by 8% to 0.27Mt, according to the Siberian News Agency. The decline at Timlyuysk Cement has been blamed on market saturation in the Buryat Republic in Siberia.

Russia: Filaret Galchev, the chairman of Eurocement, and Vladimir Sushkov, the chairman of the government of the Republic of Mordovia, has officially opened a Euro65m grinding unit at the Mordovcement plant. The new grinding unit includes two ball mills with a production capacity of 2.6Mt/yr, a 50,000t clinker warehouse and rail and truck despatch silos. Eurocement used equipment from Christian Pfeiffer, Claudius Peters, Aumund and KHD for the upgrade project at its subsidiary.

Russia: Eurocement is installing a 24MW captive natural gas power plant at its Kavkazcement plant in Chelyabinsk. The equipment was purchased from Finland’s Wärtsilä for the Euro15.5m project. Construction of the buildings to house the power plant is expected to be completed in November 2018.

The project is a part of an energy efficiency program that Mikhail Skorokhod, the president of Eurocement, signed with Rashid Temrezov, the head of the Karachay-Cherkess Federal Region, as part of the Russian Investment Forum, in 2018.

At present Eurocement has a power generation capacity of 150MW. It has built captive power plants at its Mordovcement, Sengileevskiy, Peterburgcement and Nevyansk cement plants. Upon the completion of the latest program the company is targeting a power capacty of over 400MW.

Russia: HeidelbergCement Russia has held an opening ceremony for a new despatch system at its Slantsev ‘Cesla’ plant in the Leningrad region. Mihail Polendakov, General Director of HeidelbergCement in Russia, Anton Hadjiiski, General Director of the plant, Mikhail Moskvin, Deputy Chairman of the Leningrad Region Government for Construction, and Deputy Prime Minister Leningrad Region - Chairman of the Committee for Economic Development and Investment Activities Dmitry Yalov attended the opening.

Following the upgrade the plant now uses an automated loading system for its trucks. The investment for the project was around Euro13m. The unit has a cement production capacity of 0.8Mt/yr.

Russia: Lipetskcement, a subsidiary of Eurocement, has added Eurocem 500 Extra to its product portfolio over the current construction season. The CEM II / А-W 42.5Н strength cement uses mineral additives to offer lower production costs, higher strength and higher corrosion resistance and water resistance. The product is offered in bagged and bulk consignments.

Russia: Pervaya Stroitelnaya Kompaniya (PSK) plans to build a 1.2Mt/yr cement plant in the Petrovsky district of the Tambov region. The project has an investment of Euro126m, according to the Kommersant newspaper. The unit will use the Borisovsky deposit for its raw materials. PSK previously purchased the licence to develop the mine from Tambov-Cement company. The project is scheduled to be built from 2019 to 2025 in several stages.

Russia/Ukraine: The Cabinet of Ministers has banned clinker imports from Russia. The government says that cement imports from Russia almost doubled in 2017, according to Interfax. Its share in total imports in 2017 was 85 - 87%, and in January - May 2018 it grew to 100%.

"The introduction of cement clinkers into the list of goods banned to import into Ukraine from Russia is carried out as part of the policy of economic opposition to discriminatory actions against Ukraine by the aggressor state," said the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade. It added the ban is expected to increase local production. Although a cement deficit is not expected, the ministry said that, if necessary, additional clinker could be imported from the European Union (EU).

According to the draft resolution, the ban on the import of Russian clinker will come into force 10 days after the publication of the document.

Russia: The head of Job Safety, Industrial Safety & the Environment Department at Eurocement’s Nevyanskiy Tsementnik cement plant has been fined Euro42,000. The fine was issued by the local authorities for emissions of non-organic dust with high silicon content, according to URBC Daily News. The plant does not have an emissions permit.

Belarus/Russia: The Belarusian Architecture and Construction Ministry says that the trade turnover of the Belarusian-Russian cement market reached up to US$400m between 2014 and 2018. Following the signing of a bilateral agreement in 2014 Belarusian cement was allowed to be sold in Russia via Eurocement Group, according to the Belarusian Telegraph Agency (BelTA). Belarusian Architecture and Construction Minister Anatoly Cherny and Eurocement Group President Mikhail Skorokhod met in early August 2018 to discuss performance in the first half of 2018.

Russia: The management of Gornozavodskcement is looking for a co-investor to upgrade its cement plant to a dry production method. Previously the company had conducted negotiations with Ireland’s CRH over the upgrade but these have been abandoned, according to Construction and Real Estate Daily News. The cement producer operates a plant near Perm.
