Siberian Cement transports cement by sea

16 September 2019

Russia: After two years of transporting its product by land only, Siberian Cement has reported a busy summer shipping window in 2019. In the two months to the end of August 2019, it shipped 15,500t of cement to Novy Port on the Gulf of Ob, Arctic Ocean. The company has announced its intent to move 17,000t in 2020 and 13,000t in 2021 by means of it 1000t-capacity barges.

Buzzi Unicem launches rebranded Russian subsidiary SLK Cement

Russia: Buzzi Unicem has formed its total 8.1Mt/yr Russian operations into a limited liability company called SLK Cement. The name combines the first letters of the names of cities where its plants are located, namely Sukhoi Log and Korkino. Andrey Immoreev, chief executive officer (CEO) of Dyckerhoff Cement in Russia, said that the rebranding ‘emphasises the importance of the Russian market in the company’s plans.’ Buzzi Unicem continues to trade as Dyckerhoff in its Central and Eastern European production areas.

Eurocement upgrades Pikalevsky cement plant

Russia: Eurocement has invested US$2.26m in upgrades to its Pikalevsky cement plant in the Leningrad region.

Eurocement has reported that tests have proven a 27% decrease in the water separation rate and an increase in the rate of curing of Pikalevsky’s cement following the upgrade. Strength indicators showed a 20% improvement in performance to 25MPa after three days, and over 60MPa after 28 days. Setting start time also increased to 175 minutes. Eurocement’s solution for particle size distribution in clinker after grinding has caused a notable boost in durability indicators.

Representatives of KHD, Aumund and Siemens aided in the installation and instruction of plant employees in the use of the new grinding technologies.

Stefan Noev appointed chief executive officer of Maltsovsky Portland Cement

Russia: Eurocement has appointed Stefan Noev as the chief executive officer (CEO) of its Maltsovsky Portland Cement subsidiary. The company operates a 4.2Mt/yr integrated plant in Bryansk Region. Noev is a graduate of the Technical University of Sofia in Bulgaria and he has worked for Italcementi and Suez Cement. He joined Eurocement in 2016 and managed its Sengileevsky integrated plant in Ulyanovsk region.

Gebr. Pfeiffer opens new subsidiary in Russia

Russia: Germany’s Gebr. Pfeiffer has opened a new subsidiary called ‘Gebr. Pfeiffer GUS’ based in Moscow. The company is led by General Director Alex Nickel and it offers new machinery as well as after sales for customers based in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) region. Nickel is joined by Sales Director Svetlana Tarasova and Service Manager Alexander Zolotarev. The parent company holds long links with the region with machine and equipment sales to countries including Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Belarus and Uzbekistan.

Bedeschi opens new subsidiary in Russia

Russia: Italy’s Bedeschi has set up a new subsidiary in Moscow. The company is working on a project for OTEKO at its dry bulk terminal at the port of Taman on the Black Sea. It consists of the supply of a fully automated coal export terminal with a total aggregated capacity of more than 50,000t/hr on six loading lines. The supply includes bucket wheel stacker-reclaimers, several kilometres of conveyors and shiploaders. The system allows the blending of different types of coal. The new company in Russia joins existing subsidiaries in the US, Morocco, India and the UAE.

Siberian Cement to upgrade automation systems

Russia: Siberian Cement is spending around Euro4m on upgrading the automated process control system (APCS) at its cement plants. The project, which is about half way along, is scheduled for completion in 2023.

Oleg Deripaska changes ownership structure of Serebryansky Cement Plant

Russia: Oligarch Oleg Deripaska has moved the ownership of BaselCement’s Serebryansky Cement Plant by MKAO Fenestraria Consultants from Cyprus to Kaliningrad, Russia. Companies associated with Deripaska underwent redomiciling procedures in May 2019, according to Interfax. The change follows the creation of Russian special administrative regions in 2018 to encourage companies to relocate domestically in response to international sanctions.

Akkermann cement brand enters Perm market

02 July 2019

Russia: The Akkermann cement brand has entered the Perm market. The Gornozavodskcement Plant near Perm has started producing cement products under the brand name, according to the Pro Perm website. 400, 500 and 600 strength products will be available in bags and CEM I 42.5N and CEM II / A-W 32.5B products will be available in bulk. The Akkermann brand is part of the South Ural Mining & Processing Company, which operates an integrated cement plant at Orenburg.

Vostokcement Group warns of delay to infrastructure projects due to legal battle

28 June 2019

Russia: Vostokcement Group has warned both federal and regional government that its on-going legal troubles will delay infrastructure projects in the Far East district, including the Zvezda shipyard, Vostochny Port coal terminal, Sila Sibiri gas pipe and a bridge over the River Amur. It said it also might be unable to pay up to 5000 workers. The cement producer previously said that office of the Prosecutor General of Russia had seized the financial accounts at Spasskcement, Teploozersk Cement and other subsidiaries in relation to a civil legal case where the defendants are trying to recover Euro44.5m.
