Sinoma signs waste heat power plant deal with Asia-Africa Business Management in Namibia
03 January 2018Namibia/China: Sinoma Energy Conservation has signed a contract with China’s Asia-Africa Business Management (AABM) to build a 4.5MW waste heat power plant. The power unit will support a 2500t/day cement production plant that AABM and local company Whale Rock Cement plan to build as a joint venture. The cement plant project was first announced in 2015.
Gharibwal Cement starts waste heat recovery unit
26 June 2017Pakistan: Gharibwal Cement has started commercial operation of a 20MW waste heat recovery unit at its Jehuml plant in Punjab. According to its website it will generate 12MW from the waste hot gases of the cement production process and 8MW from a coal-fired system. The plant has a clinker production capacity of 6700t/day.
India: Sagar Cements has started generating power from a 6MW waste recovery unit at its Mattampally cement plant in the Nalgonda District of Telangana. The company’s board of directors approved the construction of the unit in March 2016.
Pakistan: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has ruled out the option of using waste heat from cement plants as surplus energy for the national grid. The body had started investigating using waste energy from cement plants but decided that high-energy consumption at the plants minimised the possibility of any excess power.
Philippines: APO Cement Corporation, a subsidiary of Cemex Philippines, has ordered a 4.5MW waste heat recovery unit from China’s Sinoma Energy Conservation. Sinoma will build and operate it. The new unit is expected to reduce the negative effects of power cuts, save energy costs and reduce the cement plant’s carbon emissions. No delivery date or cost of the order has been disclosed.
Lucky Cement inaugurates WHR unit
15 March 2017Pakistan: Lucky Cement has inaugurated a waste heat recovery (WHR) unit in Pezu, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, its fifth across its operations. The unit generates 10MW from two 2400t/day cement production lines. It was installed by China’s Sinoma.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Muhammad Ali Tabba, CEO of Lucky Cement, as well as other members of the company’s senior management. “As one of the leading cement manufacturers in Pakistan, we have the responsibility to reduce energy consumption and improve the environment. With the launch of our fifth WHR plant, we aim to do just that,” said Tabba.
Semen Indonesia sales fall in 2017
03 March 2017Indonesia: Semen Indonesia’s sales revenue fell by 3% year-on-year to US$1.95bn in 2016 from US$2.01bn in 2015. Its gross profit fell by 7.4% to US$737m from US$796m. Its overall cement sales volumes remained stable at 28.9Mt although sales from its Vietnamese subsidiary rose by 10.9% to 2.59Mt and its domestic subsidiary Semen Padang saw its sales fall by 3.5% to 6.29Mt. Exports from Indonesia rose by 24.4% to 0.6Mt.
Despite its static cement sales in Indonesia, the cement producer has two new 3Mt/yr cement plant projects respectively underway. The Indarung cement plant in West Sumatra is scheduled for commercial operation in April 2017. The Rembang cement plant in Central Java remains suspended whilst the company seeks environmental clearance. The government revoked permits for the site in late 2016 and it has been the focus of protests. In addition, a 30MW waste heat recovery system at the Tuban plant is scheduled to start operation by the end of 2017.
Keerthi Industries starts 2.24MW waste heat recovery unit at plant
13 February 2017India: Keerthi Industries has started operation of a 2.24MW waste heat recovery unit at its Keerthi cement plant at Mellacheruvu, Nalgonda district in Telangana. The cement producer says that the upgrade cost US$3.9m to buy and install, according to local press. Keerthi Industries operates a 0.6Mt/yr cement plant.
Pioneer Cement signs deal with Chengdu Design & Research to build new line at Chenki
10 February 2017Pakistan: Pioneer Cement has signed contracts with Chengdu Design & Research Institute of Building Materials Industry (CDI) to build a new 8000t/day clinker production line at its cement plant in Chenki, District Khusshab in Punjab. The order also includes a 12MW waste heat recovery unit and a captive 24MW coal power plant. No value for the order has been disclosed.
Cherat Cement to build new production line at Nowshera plant
24 January 2017Pakistan: Cherat Cement has announced plants to build a third production line at its plant at Nowshera in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province. The new line will have a cement production capacity of 7100t/day, according to the Express Tribune newspaper. The upgrade will increase the company’s production capacity to 4.5Mt/yr.
The cement producer opened at second production line at the site in late 2016. It is also planning to build a waste heat recovery unit.
