Founder of Mombasa Cement dies

Kenya: Hasmukh Patel, the founder of Mombasa Cement, has died at the age of 58 years after a short illness. He was also the chair of Uganda-based Tororo Cement, according to the Standard newspaper. Patel set up Mombasa Cement in 2007. Notably, the Corporate Social Responsibility programmes of his companies had a budget of around US$12m/yr for spending on various philanthropic schemes.
Carbon Limit appoints Gabriel Carrero as Chief Commercial Officer

US: Gabriel Carrero has taken on the role of Chief Commercial Officer (COO) at Carbon Limit, developer of the CO2-sequestering concrete additive CaptureCrete. Carrero previously served as Senior Vice President, Sales & Marketing at fellow additive developer CarbonCure, and has held directorial roles in multiple companies in the cement and concrete chemicals innovation space, including working as COO of Sysdyne Technologies and NITROcrete and as Global Director, Specialty Construction Chemicals at GCP Applied Technologies. Carrero holds a Mechanical Engineering degree from the Centre Technological University (UNITEC) and an MBA from the University of Carabobo, both in Venezuela.
Mangesh Verma becomes CEO of Cimerwa

Rwanda: Kenya-based National Cement subsidiary Cimerwa has announced the appointment of Mangesh Verma as its CEO. He succeeds James Oduor, who oversaw the company’s acquisition by National Cement and its acquisition of Prime Cement.
Verma previously served as general manager commercial and operations for Kenya-based food producer United Millers. He previously occupied management positions in various companies in Kenya and India. He has an MBA from Dr RML Avadh University and a bachelor’s in Botany, Zoology and Chemistry from the University of Allahabad, both in India.
Zeotech appoints James Marsh as CEO

Australia: Zeolite, kaolin and metakaolin producer Zeotech has appointed James Marsh as its new CEO, effective from 9 September 2024. Current CEO Scott Burkhart will then transition to chief operating officer. The appointment is intended to support Zeotech’s entry into large-scale production of high reactivity metakaolin for use in cement and concrete.
Marsh is a director of Australian Kaolin. He previously worked as executive director sales and marketing at Andromeda Metals, after holding managerial roles at multiple minerals companies. He has a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and Physics from the University of the West of England, UK.
Managing Director Peter Zardo said "James' technical experience in the industrial mineral and cement industries, especially metakaolin, will be pivotal in accelerating Zeotech's goal of becoming a significant supplier of premium supplementary cementitious materials. Queensland-based leadership is critical to achieving the Company's objectives as we ramp up work programmes and industry engagement, and James will play an essential hands-on role in executing Zeotech's strategy."
James Marsh said "I'm excited to join Zeotech at a crucial stage of the company's strategy, where I can utilise my experience and connections to make it a significant player in decarbonising the construction industry."
Raakesh Jain appointed as Executive Director & CEO (Cement) at Prism Johnson

India: Prism Johnson has appointed Raakesh Jain as Executive Director & CEO (Cement) with effect from 17 August 2024. His appointment will last for three years until mid-2027. He will succeed Vivek K Agnihotri, who has resigned.
Jain holds 30 years of experience in the building material industry working as the CEO of the cement division of Prism Johnson from late 2021. Before this he was the Chief Sales Officer for Nuvoco Vistas. Earlier in his career he spent nearly a decade with Lafarge India in sales roles. Before this he held sales positions for the white cement division of UltraTech Cement from the late 1990s onwards. He is a commerce graduate from Devi Ahilya University and holds a master of business administration in Marketing from Vikram University.
