Germany: The Supervisory Board of Heidelberg Materials has extended the mandate of Dr Dominik von Achten as chair of the Managing Board for an additional three years, until 31 January 2028. Dr von Achten has been leading the company since February 2020 and according to Heidelberg Materials, he has been instrumental in its global growth and the digitalisation and decarbonisation of the building materials industry, complemented by strong financial performance.

Dr Bernd Scheifele, chair of the Supervisory Board said “With Dr von Achten, we have an experienced manager at the helm of the company who has excellently positioned Heidelberg Materials on a global scale and set the course for the future with great commitment.” He continued "We look forward to continuing the trustful work with him. We are convinced that he will keep driving the transformation into a sustainable and digital future with verve and continue to successfully lead the company in the coming years.”

Dr von Achten has been part of Heidelberg Materials' Managing Board since 2007, serving as deputy chair since 2015 and as chair since 2020.

Mexico: Holcim Mexico has appointed Jorge González Mateu as its chief financial officer (CFO). He previously worked as the Head of Controlling and the Deputy CFO for Holcim Mexico. González Mateu has worked for Holcim group since 2013 with similar financial roles for Holcim Ecuador, as well as other related positions for the group in Spain and Switzerland. Prior to this he worked for Tarmac in Spain.

Spain: Cementos Molins has appointed Marcos Cela as its CEO. He will succeed Julio Rodríguez, who has spent nine years in the post, at the end of June 2024 after the shareholders annual general meeting,

Cela holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Barcelona, a master in business administration qualification from the ESADE Business School and a senior management programme qualification from the IESE Business School. He started his career in 1995 in the finances division of Decathlon Spain. Four years later, he assumed the role of Credit and Treasury Director at BIC Graphic Europe, before joining Cementos Molins in 2004 as chief financial officer, a position he held until early 2015. Since then, Cela has been a member of the executive committee, working as the Executive VP for Asia, Africa, and South America regions.

Mexico: The National Cement Chamber (CANACEM) has appointed José María Barroso as its CEO. He will follow on from Jaime Hill Tinoco, the head of Holcim México, in the role, according to the El Financiero newspaper. Barroso’s tenure will cover the 2024 – 2025 period.

Barroso is a graduate of the Instituto Tecnologico de Merida in Yucatan and he also holds a master’s degree in international trade form the same institution. He holds over 40 years of experience in the cement sector working both nationally and internationally for Cemex. He joined Cementos Moctezuma in 2010 as its Sales Director before becoming its Director General in 2018.

Qatar: Al Jabor Cement has appointed Rizwan Khan as its General Manager.

He previously worked as the chief financial officer for Al Jabor Cement. Prior to this he held financial and analytical roles for LafargeHolcim in the UAE and Saudi Arabia from 2009. Earlier in his career he worked for Emirates Flight Catering from the late 1990s. Khan holds a master in business administration qualification with a focus on finance from the University of Bradford in the UK.

Al Jabor Cement has been an affiliate company to Holcim since 2003 when it formed a strategic partnership. It also uses the name Holcim Cement Qatar.
