Construction works starts on Angren cement plant in Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan: An event marking the laying of the foundation stone at the Angren cement plant has taken place. Construction work is scheduled to be completed by November 2019. The project is a joint venture between Russia’s Eurocement Group and UzQurilishMateriallari.

Eurocement starts building upgrade project at Akhangarancement

Uzbekistan: Eurocement has started building an upgrade to its Akhangarancement plant at Akhangaransky. Botir Zaripov, chairman of the board of Uzstroymaterialy, and Mikhail Skorokhod, the president of Eurocement, attended a ceremony laying the foundation stone. The project has a cost of over US$160m and it will increase the production capacity of the plant to 3Mt/yr. The first batch of products from the new production line is expected in mid-2020. China’s CNBM is the main contractor on the project.

Cement export volumes growing in Tajikistan so far in 2018

Tajikistan: Average monthly volumes of cement exports have grown by 37% year-on-year to 115,000t in the first eight months of 2018 compared to 84,000t for the whole year in 2017. Data from the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies shows that 920,000t of cement was exported from January to August 2018, according to the Asia Plus agency. 520,000t was exported to neighbouring Uzbekistan, 340,000t to Afghanistan and 60,000t to Kyrgyzstan.

Largest Central Asian cement plant opens in Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan: The largest cement plant in Central Asia has been commissioned in the Sherabad district of the Surkhandarya region of Uzbekistan. Construction of the Sherabad cement plant has been carried out by Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Combine (AMMC) JSC. The cost of the project was US$212.8m and its capacity is 1.5Mt/yr. The majority of the cement produced will be directed toward domestic demand. The Turkish DAL Teknik Makina Ticaret ve Sanayi AS company also participated in the construction of the plant.

The project was paid for by AMMC's own funds (US$24.4m), a loan issued by the Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan (US$90m) and loans from commercial banks (US$110.6m).

There are currently five large cement plants in Uzbekistan: Kyzylkumcement, Akhangarancement, Kuvasaycement, Bekabadcement, Jizzakh cement plant, as well as a number of small enterprises. Their total capacity exceeds 8.5Mt/yr. Over the next five years, Uzbekistan plans to increase its national capacity to 17Mt/yr, double the current level.

Companies with projects under construction or in the planning process include Russia’s Eurocement Group, which is building a US$220m dry process plant with a capacity of 2.4Mt/yr. Two more cement plants will be built with funds from Chinese investors. The first is being built by the Xin Lei enterprise in the Akhangaran region. It will have an annual capacity of 1.0Mt/yr at cost of US$108m. The other will be established by Akhangaranshifer at a cost of US$100m, also with a capacity of 1.0Mt/yr.

Uzbekistan imports more cement

Uzbekistan: Uzbekistan imported cement worth a total of US$79.8m during the first half of 2018, six times more than in the same period of 2017, according to the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan. It was reported earlier that Uzbek cement production had decreased from 4.2Mt in the first half of 2017 to 3.9Mt in the first half of 2018.

Chzhungtsai Mohir Cement to build plant in Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan: Tajik-Chinese joint venture Chzhungtsai Mohir Cement is planning to build a cement plant near Tuda in the Boisoun district of the Surkhandarya region in Uzbekistan. The unit will have a production capacity of 1.2Mt/yr, according to Asia-Plus. The company operates a 1.2Mt/yr cement plant in Tajikistan than opened in 2016. Tajikistan exported 0.66Mt of cement in the first half of 2018 and 0.36Mt of this went to neighbouring Uzbekistan.

Almalyk to open Sherabad cement plant in late August 2018

Uzbekistan: Almalyk Mining and Processing (AGMK) plans to open a new 1.5Mt/yr cement plant in the Sherabad district of the Surkhandarya region in late August 2018. Pilot production at the site started in July 2018, according to the Podrobno News Agency. The unit has an investment of US$213m. Turkey's Dal Teknik Makina worked on the project.

Tajikistan produces 1.8Mt of cement in first half of 2018

Tajikistan: Tajikistan’s cement production rose by 39% year-on-year to 1.8Mt in the first half of 2018 from 1.3Mt in the same period in 2017. Of this total 0.7Mt was exported to neighbouring countries, principally Afghanistan and Uzbekistan, according to the Avesta news agency. The local cement industry is benefiting from government-backed infrastructure projects, a rise in domestic house building and a buoyant export market.

The country produced 3.1Mt of cement in 2017 and over 1Mt of this was exported. It has 13 cement producers with an estimated production capacity of 4Mt/yr. Local demand for cement is estimated to be 3 – 3.5Mt/yr.

Uzbek cement production falls in first half of 2018

Uzbekistan: Cement production fell by 5% year-on-year to 3.95Mt in the first half of 2018 from 4.2Mt in the same period in 2017, according to the Trend News Agency. The company set price controls for cement earlier in the year to support housing and infrastructure projects.

Uzbekistan sets price controls to stabilise cement market

Uzbekistan: President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed a resolution that fixes the price of cement to support housing and infrastructure projects. The new legislation will force approved suppliers to sell 2Mt of cement for a fixed price to contractors, according to Uzbekistan Daily. Tax levels for cement producers have also been increased.
